Owner description: Mount Rigi's majestic peninsula on Lake Lucerne is the perfect setting for an authentic Swiss mountain experience with unforgettable views of over 13 lakes and the spectacular snow-capped Swiss Alps. Located in the heart of Switzerland, Mt. Rigi can be quickly and easily reached from Lucerne and Zurich. It is the Swiss people's favourite mountain destination, can be accessed via Europe's first ever cogwheel train (est. 1871) and is renowned for its numerous cogwheel railway and aerial cable car routes. You can visit Mt. Rigi 365 days a year and there's plenty of outdoor action on offer, including 120km of hiking trails. The numerous lookouts, delightful terraces and the Mineral Baths at Rigi Kaltbad also ensure there are plenty of opportunities for rest and relaxation on the Queen of the Mountains.

We took the golden round trip and really enjoyed the cable car ride. Would have enjoyed spending more time at the half-way stop to enjoy the summer toboggan runs, as the train ride and boat were not as exciting. If you are in Lucerne - going to the top of Mt. Rigi is a must!

Mt Rigi is known as the "Queen of Mountains" and is easy accessible from Lucerne and surrounds. The obvious advantage of this is committed services by boat, cable-car and trains to all spots of the mountain - it's quite simple to combine a trip to access all areas. The disadvantage, of course, is the high numbers of people tramping over this big hill. At 1800 metres high, it's hardly the Matterhorn - in most places it feels like a lofty cow paddock. There are a wide selection of walks all over Rigi - it's steep enough to do your legs justice, but never remote enough to make you feel endangered. The views over Lake Lucerne and the Alps are simply stunning. Best recommendation is to book accommodation on the mountain to appreciate this spot when the tourist hordes have abated overnight.

This was my second time on the top of Mount Rigi and again it was one of the most memorable days of my 7 weeks in Europe. If you travel on a cloudy day, the sensation of rising above the clouds and seeing the whole of the Swiss Alps all around will stay with you forever. I have been to the top of two mountains close to Lucerne (not Pilatus) and this is by far the best.

Went to the top of the mountain. Though it's a bit of a hassle going up, first u need to take a cable car, then a tram up to the top, it's well worth the trouble after you reached the top and look down. The views are simply magnificent. I had lunch up at the top and the food was simply one of the best...
