This is a short walk up from the center of Lucerne. The clock works are quite interesting. This is a must-see for a day trip to the city.

There are actually only 4 towers you can go in to, but they are very cool, and we walked up and down each of them. I was struck by how steep the stairs are. The original stone stairs still exist in a few places and I couldn't believe how far apart they were. We loved the history and the view of these towers.

These nine towers are each different and connected with the old city wall. You can walk along the wall and even enter some of the towers at no charge. It's a nice walk and the towers are in good condition. I think it's more worthwhile to find a guided tour and hear a little more about the history of the city and the towers.

remaining of the old medieval City Wall. Described under "The Old Town of Lucerne". Can be visited during the day, free of charge.
Four of the towers can be visited, need "some fitness" because the steep stairs. Entrence at the "Schirmer Tower" about in the center. This part of the remaining old defence has nine towers left, but some are in private assiciations.
