You dont associate weakness with lions but one loook at this statue and you can actually see the pain in the lion. A short walk up from the train station - no charge

“Beautiful monument”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013

Everything has already been said about this magnificently carved monument. Do learn about its history which makes it more meaningful and go early or later in the day to avoid the crowds. It's an easy walk from the centre of town. I am a lion girl and find the expression in this sad lion's face kind of makes me sad, too.

This monument is a moving tribute to those who sacrificed their lives-for nothing! Very sad. A beautiful monument.

Truly a moving experience beyond the art of the carving of the monument. A fabulous work of art. Read up on the monument before visiting, it will mean a lot more to you.

“a must for a vistit in lucerne”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 23, 2013

The dying Lion of Lucerne Monument is a must if you have got some time in Lucerne. It is actually not made form a Swiss ;-)
It was made by the famous Danish sculptor Bertel Thorvaldsen and hewn in 1820–21 by Lukas Ahorn.
