My family is very fond and quite discriminating about wiener schnitzel-we are from Chicago and loved the old Berghoff restaurant, and enjoyed German food when we lived near Milwaukee Wisconsin. This was THE best meal we had in Lucerne! It was pounded thin, and tender as a mother's love! We believe it was the Best schnitzel we have EVER had! Came with nicely parsley boiled potatoes and delicious fresh salad for 33 CH (Swiss franc). We asked the waiter to suggest a red wine from the front page (many more pricey wines further back) he suggested a dry red from Austria-excellent! Only wish we had room for dessert, but we were stuffed! So much better than some of those "tourist trap" restaurants right along the river near Chapel Bridge! We ate at two of those- one lunch was $83 for a brat and fries, chicken curry, and two small glasses of wine-very lacking! Another cost $120 for what I would call no better than a fish fry at Long John Silvers! Go to the Schluessel-you will get your money's worth! Make sure to have your hotel call and make you a reservation so you can sit in the formal dining room one floor up-rather than the ground level cafe.
