You know when you travel outside the United States rooms are much smaller. The Hofgarten rooms are small, but comfortable-unless you go in the summer (no air conditioning). The staff are friendly and helpful and make sure you are comfortable. Very close to the bus line. Great restaurant in hotel.

My girlfriend and I stayed at the Hofgarten for a 2-night stay in Lucerne and were quite happy with it. The staff was extremely helpful and courteous, and we particularly enjoyed the nice patio/garden area for meals. The room could have used some updating but was clean and comfortable. The hotel is not far from the lake front and a short walk over to the old town area; it's very central. I'd definitely recommend it as a good value in Lucerne.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the courtyard and/or street do experience some street noise, so rooms in the rear are likely quieter.

Old building in the historical part of Lucern.
Of course, they don`t have AC, this is a historical building. Rooms are clean and stylish. With modern lamps from Gras and other design things. You always can open windows - streets are quite.
Owner and staff are amazing. Free water, welcome drink, any guest request are welcome. This is definitely best boutique hotel in Lucern for this money.
And also the restaurant - one star of Michelin is must be there!

I cannot believe this is a 4 star hotel. It is 40 degrees Celsius inside. No air conditioning. We open the window and it is noisy outside. Not sure how people sleep here. Tiny shower, no privacy toilet. And there is church with its bells. There is no one at the reception after a certain hour. Unbelievable how it got 4 stars.

My wife and I stayed in room 215 in June of 2017 during our summer vacation in Switzerland. The hotel staff were very friendly, and all (as in most establishments in Switzerland) spoke English. Free bottles of water (sparkling or flat) await guests at the reception desk, available anytime during your stay. However, the water from the faucet in the room was better tasting than the bottled water - so refill your bottles with tap water. The room was rather quiet, but with the window open you will hear the church bells just across the street - this did not bother us at all. There is an in-room safe - ask for the key at the reception desk. It is a small European room, but very comfortable and plenty big enough for two people. There is a small (by American standards) but complete bathroom - European style shower is only 3" x 3" - great water pressure. Very comfortable queen-size bed and pillows (soft pillows). Good TV with lots of German speaking channels. There is a refrigerator, but it is full of beverages for purchase. We were able to fit in some lunch meat and cheese to make sandwiches for hiking. There is no air conditioning, but with the window cracked open and the desk fan on (very nice, small fan covered the room nicely) it was very comfortable (not cold). It is a Swiss-style hotel outside - very quaint - in the center of the old part of town and in easy walking distance of a full grocery store and the train station. It is located in a very safe neighborhood. There is a full breakfast that was absolutely delicious, and if you sit just outside (weather permitting) on the patio there is a beautiful view of the old church across the street. We had a great experience at this hotel and I highly recommend it to all.
