The Hotel Alpina in Luzern is less than a five minute walk to the train station and is part of the Hotel Metropol complex. The location is great, the breakfast was served at the Hotel Metropole and hence was Great. It is convininet in location. This is a very busy area so don't think there is nothing but peace and quiet. There is a Bar at the Ground Floor of the Hotel and we were there on a weekend, It was noisy till late night and young couples hanged around in the vicinity all day long. There are dozens of restaurants within 5 -10 minutes from the hotel and the river and tourist area are virtually across the street. Our room was clean with a tiny television and a typical small toilet and shower. The desk service was very good and quick to respond. The lift was the DRAWBACK of the hotel. We travelled with our two kids and it was never a time when all four of us could go in one go. It was the smallest lift I have ever seen and was scary to an extent too!! Over all the rooms were clean and the staff was pretty helpful. The location was a great advantage. Right at the corner of the street where the Hotel is located is a Tourist Information centre, You can get deals and trips from there too.

Room Tip: Rooms were all small and not that spacious but try to get a one with the sitting area, that will giv...

Awesome location, just around the corner from lucern central station. Two seconds to everything you need. The room was really spacious and clean, and the staff were fantastic. They had no wi-fi in the rooms only in the lobby seating area, which was still okay. Recommend staying here if your in Lucern.

This hotel is located right near the train station and within a short walking distance from the Lake and Chapel Bridge. However, it is also located right next to a couple of night clubs, and the night we stayed there it was rather warm, so we wanted to keep the windows open, but the noise from the street was so loud we had to shut the windows. It might not be so bad on a weeknight, but on a Sat night of a holiday weekend there were a LOT of people out and about. Also, as noted by other TA reviewers, much of their service comes from their sister hotel, the Hotel Monopol, including the breakfast. The rooms are fairly large and look like they may have been redone recently, but they are completely lacking in charm, containing furniture that looks like it was purchased from IKEA and just thrown into the room. Overall, not a bad experience, the staff was very helpful and spoke very good English, but I was expecting a little more for the amount of money we paid. It seems more like a 2 star hotel than a 3 star hotel.

Alpina and its sister hotel, Monopol are just steps away from the Lucerne train station.

Room was huge and both room and bathroom were clean and sheets smelled fresh.

Reception staff are helpful and competent.

My only gripe is that there is no wifi in the room. The free wifi provided is available only at the Monopol Lobby where we had to log into the Starbucks free wifi service. Bandwidth is throttled down after 60 minutes.

Have to check in at the sister hotel, Monopol and they really stick to the check-in timings - 2pm.

It was our first stay in Switzerland (& Europe) and we were shocked at the lift. Firstly it was so small, my husband took our luggages (28" & 29") to go up first. After awhile, i saw him coming down the lift (there is only 1 lift) because he couldn't find the door to exit the lift at level 5. I manage to squeeze in with him to go up the 2nd time and he warned me of the scrapping at my back against the "wall". I literally screamed after the lift started moving, because it was the first time i was in this kind of lift where you open the door by yourself and there is no other type of barrier between the lift and the door outside. So when the lift goes up, the exits/door-to-other-levels zoom past infront of you. When we reach level 5, we realise the exit/door is the other side of the lift.

After the scary lift experience (we got used to it after that), we open the door of room 59 (same as KuroroMe). The room is clean but it just spells "apartment" rather than "hotel room". It was nevertheless cosy enough for us. We were greeted by a mountain view outside the balcony. We had the room pictures but those are the same as KuroroMe, so I just posted the photo of the amazing view.

There were no amenities whatsoever, but for the price in Switzerland, we don't expect it. It was already a great value hotel which includes good breakfast at sister hotel, Monopol.

A tip to find the hotel: It is behind the main street where Hotel Monopol is located. You can't miss Hotel Monopol. There is no frontdesk at any time, so get the room key from Monopol and tap in by yourself.

I stayed in Hotel Alpina for business reason (studies at the university of applied science Lucerne) and for me the hotel was at the ideal location just across the university located in the main train station.
Several of my study mates complaint about the noise - it seems that it is as noisy with or without windows closed as the first level rooms are partially located directly above a bar. So the boom-boom lasts until middle of the night on weekends.
I was located on the 5th floor in a small, but newly renovated and refurbished single-bed room. It's ok for what I stayed for there, but has neither a minibar nor any coffee or tea facilities in the room.
Obviously the 'old' rooms on the floors below have both of it, but I did prefer a new/modern room with a walk-in shower instead of a bath tube with curtain....
From noise perspective I can't complain, I had a good sleep and was only woken in the morning (short before my clock was ringing anyway), because of the work starting down in the inner courtyard and the car starting engines.
A disadvantage is that you do not have an own reception or wireless connection in Alpina. You have to go to the mother hotel 'Metropol', which is connected by a tunnel just around the corner of the Alpina entrance. You also have to go to the Metropol for breakfast as well as check-in/check-out.
The hotel is ok for a short stay or if you do not have too high expectations. It's still far less expensive than all the hotels around, so if you set the right priorities you pay for what you get.
