the architecture is the highlight of the area. Many of the shops have become quite touristy or are many of the brands you see in malls in America. Lots of paintings on the building walls....look up and around as you walk thru.

You cannot miss the Old Town Lucerne if you ever go there. Walking along the river banks and wondering around, browsing one little amazing shop after the other is a relaxing and fun experience. You will find all kinds of nice bars and restaurants, people are absolutely friendly and it will take you not longer than 5-7 hours to see it all and take photos.
There are incredibly nice historic buildings, and allies, churches with an amazing architecture, the time will fly, you will not want to leave.

Beautiful Old Town in Lucerne. Explore the old pedestrian bridges, multiple historic and beautiful churches, a very unusual water dam, lunch or drinks by the water or many other options. Very interesting, beautiful, and enjoyable.

What a gorgeous city this is. Large enough to do everything you want but small enough to see everything in a couple days. This is the perfect place to unwind and enjoy great views along with good shopping and restaurants.

This place is really worth wandering through - you can't get lost! Some beautiful buildings with frescoes and some decent shopping.

The old town has a small footprint; allot about 5-6 hours for a walking tour of the river banks, lunch, a museum, and some slight off the path sites (maybe 1-2 km for each). Best time for this in my book: afternoons as the sun sets and the busses leave.

Many tiny shops, narrow streets, lots of people. The area stretches around the river and on both sides of it. Cozy and typical Swiss places.

It was very nice walking in the old city, where you find paintings in the wall of the buildings. I went on Saturday and it was a nice market there as well

Never heard of Lucerne before until I started planning out my itinerary in August. Locals at travel forums say this city makes a good base for your perfect Swiss experience and I couldn’t agree more. Everything seems so accessible when in Lucerne. Zurich Airport, Mt. Titlis, and other beautiful excursions like Mt. Pilatus and Mt. Rigi are all an hour train/boat/cable ride away.
Its old town has preserved its medieval characteristics which will make you feel like you were living your fairy tale dreams. You'll be inspired looking at the beautiful snowcapped mountains from a distance or just by watching the swans enjoy the lake before sunset.
There are so many things to love about Lucerne and I don't think this review can even do slight justice. Definitely must visit when in Switzerland!

This is a lovely, lovely, lovely town! Sitting on the banks of the Lake Lucerne, you can stroll the many cobblestoned streets, and browse the shops (if you like fine leather shoes and / or Swiss watches, you will love this!). There are plenty of restaurants to choose from, many small and all with the menus posted outside. We were in Lucerne three nights, and thoroughly enjoyed our time there, with our hotel right in the middle of the Old Town. Great place to visit!
