I spent an afternoon with my family in the Old Town of Luzern during a short trip to Zurich in April 2013. We explored the Old Town and made time to climb up to the Löwendenkmal (lion monument) as well as up onto the city walls and into one of the watch towers (complete with enormous clock) before descending into the Old Town proper and its quaint streets, frescoed houses and pretty squares. We would have liked longer in Luzern (it was late afternoon before we arrived into the Old Town streets and the shops weren't far off closing) but we weren't there for shopping - and so were happy to find a lovely bar / restaurant on the river where we could relax as the sun went down with Aperol Spritz and a plate of ham / cheese / olives. We could have worn fur coats to keep us warm if we'd wanted! Altogether a delightful place to explore.
