Owner description: Open to discoverers. Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space - yesterday, today and in the future. Technical achievements enable us to be mobile and shape our lives. It is only the mental agility of tinkerers, inventors and explorers that has made people as mobile as they are today. The fascinating history of transport and its vehicles together with their socio-political effects on our culture are the key themes of the Swiss Museum of Transport. More than 3000 objects displayed in an area exceeding 20,000 m² are witnesses to a moving history in the most literal sense and point to future challenges in the field of transport and mobility. Filmtheatre - The largest screen in Switzerland: Spending 40 minutes exploring a strange world, seeing the very small in close up, the very large in its true size and experiencing a whole new film dimension. Planetarium: Travel with us through the realm of the stars. No matter what the outside weather, with state-of-the-art technology we will conjure up an impressive starry sky on the dome of our planetarium. Experience an unforgettable space walk from the comfort of your armchair. Since its opening in 1969, the Swiss Museum of Transport Planetarium has been a source of fascination for young and old. Beneath the 18m dome, (projection area 508 m2) you will experience a breathtaking starry sky and discover the principles and the latest research findings from the world of astronomy. This, the only large planetarium in Switzerland, belongs to an exclusive circle able to depict dome-filling moving pictures on its 508 m2 area. The Swiss Chocolate Adventure is a new theme world that allows the visitor to learn interesting facts about the discovery, origin, production and transport of chocolate. Seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting: this multimedia voyage of discovery appeals to different senses. “Big and impressive”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

This is definitely a very good and impressive museum, with full coverage of Ground Air Sea and Space vehicles of many kinds, some real, some are models.
There are also many activities and interactive attractions for children even of small age.
You can easily spend half a day there.
The only disadvantage for us was that it is not so friendly to English speaking visitors, and most of the interactive attractions are more suitable for local visitors.
Do not skip it if you are in Lucern.

“Great Museum - fun for all ages”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

We have two older teenage children and were looking for something to do on a cold snowy day in Lucerne. We choose the Transport Museum as we had the Swiss Pass and thought if it wasn't any good then we hadn't wasted much but some time. What a great surprise - it was really fun and interesting. Plenty of interactive displays even for an 18 year old. We expected only to stay for an hour or so in the morning but ended up being there most of the day. There is a large cafeteria with plenty of choices of hot meals, salads and sandwiches. Highly recommended for any age children and transport loving adults.

“Not worth the time”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

We had bought Swiss rail passes from a website which quoted that all museums in Switzerland are free, along with the pass.
But we were CHEATED and were asked to purchase tickets.Just for a trampoline for kids, we needed to pay extra money...utter waste.
If we had known we would have to buy tickets, I wouldn't have wasted my time there, instead, there are much better places to spend your time in, when in Switzerland.
Being outdoors amongst the beautiful nature is more fun.

“Interesting and Fun for Kids and Adults”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2013

We spent the good part of a day walking to the museum, viewing it's wonderful exhibits and having a reasonably priced and good lunch at their cafe. There are many interactive exhibits along with the actual, fully restored, vehicles from days gone by, very impressive. The younger kids will love the outdoor play area with a miniature construction site and working vehicles for them to play with. Besides calling this a transport museum I would add science and industry to the description.

“Great for all ages”

Great transportation museum, lots of interactive things, great play area for children. Adults enjoy the wonderful displays of all modes of transportation throughout the last several hundred years. If you have a Swiss Pass, don't forget to use it.
