If the weather is not good enough for going up a mountain, (or if you just prefer an excellent technical museum), then this is the place to be. They have fantastic displays of trains, cars, aircraft, space-flight and telecoms. Something for all ages.

It is all here - ships, planes, trains and automobiles. The three year old was entranced and in fact we all became small children. Very well laid out and almost impossible to take it in just in one day but we tried arriving at 11 or so and leaving at 5.30 and only then with bribes of Ben and Jerry's ice cream. There is more to see in some sections i.e the rail section with some full size engines whereas the Swiss Navy is represented by one boat. Take the free little trip in the railway section telling the story of the St Gothard tunnel - amazingly naff figures but a good story about death, money, delays and bankruptcy but with a great national asset at the end of it. They are continuing to tunnel to this day.

Went there today and have mixed feelings. It really is geared to families and very interactive for kids. If traveling with a children this place is a MUST do and plan on spending most of the day there. It is nice that you can actually leave the museum and go across the street to the park and enjoy a picnic lunch if you pack one.
For adults it was just ok. Unless you are a gear head like someone else said or have not been exposed to much there was not a whole lot of new information. Still was enjoyable but I did not feel it was really for adults. The Planetarium was very interesting and I would suggest you catch at least one show there, but not for kids.
So a definite 5* for families and a 3* for adults.
It is also pretty expensive ($30SF) so definitely get the museum card if you plan on going here and at least one other museum. Cost of card is $32SF

As wife of a trainspotter and overall gearhead, I've been lugged around to MANY of these museums. The price of admission alone is 30CHF each, BUT it was worth every Franc. This was the BEST of all of the transport museums I've been to. Tons of stuff for non-gearheads, gearheads, kids, geeks, you name it. Every section was entertaining and enjoyable. Spend a little extra and get the combo ticket (40CHF) to see the IMAX 3D movie (with audio translation in English, Italian, or French). A great day for the family too. The two of us could have spent all day. We were there 5 hours!
