Owner description: Open to discoverers. Experience in interesting and diverse ways the development of transport and mobility by road, rail and water as well as in the air and outer space - yesterday, today and in the future. Technical achievements enable us to be mobile and shape our lives. It is only the mental agility of tinkerers, inventors and explorers that has made people as mobile as they are today. The fascinating history of transport and its vehicles together with their socio-political effects on our culture are the key themes of the Swiss Museum of Transport. More than 3000 objects displayed in an area exceeding 20,000 m² are witnesses to a moving history in the most literal sense and point to future challenges in the field of transport and mobility. Filmtheatre - The largest screen in Switzerland: Spending 40 minutes exploring a strange world, seeing the very small in close up, the very large in its true size and experiencing a whole new film dimension. Planetarium - Travel with us through the realm of the stars. No matter what the outside weather, with state-of-the-art technology we will conjure up an impressive starry sky on the dome of our planetarium. Experience an unforgettable space walk from the comfort of your armchair. Since its opening in 1969, the Swiss Museum of Transport Planetarium has been a source of fascination for young and old. Beneath the 18m dome, (projection area 508 m2) you will experience a breathtaking starry sky and discover the principles and the latest research findings from the world of astronomy. This, the only large planetarium in Switzerland, belongs to an exclusive circle able to depict dome-filling moving pictures on its 508 m2 area. The Swiss Chocolate Adventure is a new theme world that allows the visitor to learn interesting facts about the discovery, origin, production and transport of chocolate. Seeing, hearing, smelling and tasting: this multimedia voyage of discovery appeals to different senses. It illustrates the entire value creation and transport chains from the cultivation of the cocoa bean and the transport to Switzerland up to the manufacture and sale of the finished chocolate product.

“Swiss Transport Museum”
Reviewed January 20, 2013

Our family is very heavily into transport. It is my career and my twin sons both have passions in different areas. One is aviation and the other railway. My wife is an all rounder but would probably say cars. This museum has it all. The Swiss are very good at telling stories and displaying their history. I like the way each story (rail, aviation etc) had their own pavilion. The technology that was presented was absolutely mind blowing as well. If you have the time make sure that you go.

“always worth a visit”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

I visited with my daughter and her friend (10y old), and we had great fun as always. Especially with the bicycles in the park! The planetarium was amazing. We did not like the 4D cinema much, it was too loud and rather boring (the one about dinosaur bones).

“A great place to spend the day with the family”
Reviewed December 17, 2012

The secretary at our hotel urged us to go here. But, I was a little hesitant after looking at the ho hum websites talking about this place. It's quite easy to get to by bus. Once you get there the landscape behind it is quite breathtaking. And inside it is clean and beautiful. I loved that there was a place to keep your coats and bags. I have NEVER seen that at a museum in Europe (yet). It's not just about cars, trains, and planes, either. It's has a planetarium which my kids loved. ANd also exhibits about space. Which my daughter also enjoyed. There was a lot of hands on learning experiments for children, Exhibits you can touch, helicopter and airplane simulators. Soooo much to do. The food wasnt great, and of course it was a bit expensive. But the 60 CH i spent to get in with the 5 of us was worth it. I saw adults there without children who had a blast. Will def make a blog post about this place as there aren't many about Lucerne. Highly recommended!!!!

“An interesting place where you and your family can spend a few hours”
Reviewed December 17, 2012 via mobile

Lucerna is An amazing city near and well comunicated with Zurich main station and is highly recommend to visit, even in a single day. This museum is interesting for everybody but specially for children where they can use simulators and differents games... The best to go is walking close to the lake with astoning views of the Alpes( a 30' walk). We did it on december with a boy and a baby without problems.
