“other than the river, best thing to see in Lucerne”
Reviewed May 26, 2013

Wonderful art museum speciallizing in Picasso and Klee and interesting history for the museum itself. Even if you don't love art, this is worthwhile. Just an amazing collection by two famous artists who had a special relationship with the Rosengarts. Will take only an hour or two but a great diversion from wandering the streets.

“interesting Picasso exhibit”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

nice, simply laid out museum with a large collection of Picasso art and an informative video and photographs of his life. Not overwhelming...nice to take in a small exhibit in a lovely setting.

“A feast of Classic Modernism in Luzern.”
Reviewed May 7, 2013

The Rosengart is housed in a beautiful building, less than ten minutes walk from the main Luzern station. Easy to find and surrounded by cafes and restaurants if you want to fuel up first!

Admission for adults is 18 chf with concessions available.

Lovely warm welcome in English. Lockers available to store bags and coats free of charge.

Divided over three floors (lift if required). Lots of information about the works of art in German and English.

Picasso is very heavily represented with 32 paintings and 100 drawings, watercolours and sculptural works.

There are also works by Klee, Monet, Cezanne, Vuillard, Bonnard, Matisse, Braque, Leger, Miro and Chagall.

The art is exceptionally well displayed and it was a delightful visit.

“Meeting Mrs. R”
Reviewed February 11, 2013

Mrs. R, of course, is Mrs. Rosengart herself. Also known as Picasso's muse. As I was browsing his portraits of her, I turned to see an impeccably dressed older woman browsing the guestbook. Mrs. R. Swiss celebrity. I went up and said, in my horrible attempt at German, thank you and then, in my borderline Valley Girl English, thanked her for sharing the museum's art.

It really is spectacular. The setting is minimalist and the Picasso's and Klee's pop. Some Chagall's and Miro's make an appearance, too. Just as lovely a museum as its benefactrice!
