I recently had a two night stay at this lovely hotel. The rooms were small but clean and the hotel staff were polite and helpful. We were fortunate to have a lovely view of Lake Lucerne. Once you closed your windows the street noise all but disappeared. This hotel is located in the beautiful old town section with many delightful small streets. I would recommend this hotel.

We walked across from the train station, We had views over the Chapel Bridge. We enjoyed everything about this hotel. Good breakfast, position, clean and friendly staff. Bar downstairs where we watched the soccer.

We arrived by train and walked the short distance over the road bridge (10 mins) and no issue about booking in at 2pm. Our room sadly was small and at the side of the hotel with the window overlooking a side alley and another building which made it feel enclosed. Despite leaving the fan switched on the room was extremely hot despite it only being 20 degrees outside. Shower room was great with large shower cubicle and room very clean.

We were fortunate with being able to have breakfast on the terrace overlooking the river and Kappel Bridge and the serving staff were very friendly and helpful. There was a good choice of fresh produce.

We stayed for 1 night (6.6.10) and would certainly consider going back to this hotel but would ask for a room at the front going on the information from other Trip Advisor reviewers.

This is a very good hotel, with some rooms facing the Chapel Bridge with a lovely view of the mountains. Ask for a balcony room well in advance. What a treat. The balcony is small but it's all one needs to admire the changing cloud/sun/shadow/fog vistas provided. One complaint: Our mattresses were very hard. Breakfast is included and is ample, nothing special. But what a view - both from the breakfast room and our room! Lovely Lucerne ...

I stayed at Hotel des Alpes August 12 - 13, 2009. I arrived by train from Bern, Switzerland. The walk from the bahnhof (train station) was pleasant and not too long, about 10 or 15 minutes because I had a large backpack as well as a day pack.

The hotel is nicely situated in front of the Kapellbrucke (Chapel Bridge). The desk clerk was easy to talk to and very informative. My room was great. I could see the Kapellbrucke as well as a large portion of the Reuss, and at night, the people below on the river bank.

My room was a fair size. Most important to me though was the view which is impressive. The location was great for walking about the city; I didn't take a car / taxi anywhere in Europe except in Roma to get to the airport. I'd recommend Hotel des Alpes if you have some extra money for a nice view from your room in Lucerne.

The hotel's location is phenomenal! It is a short walk from the train station, 10 minutes with a rolling bag. Easy to find. It fronts the river backs to one of Luzern's historic bridges. This makes for a spectacular view. It is also easy to walk from here all through Luzern as we did.

The location is however the greatest drawback to the hotel. The strand of restaurants and bars has foottraffic until well after two on the weekend nights (during our stay). Expect shouting and whooping until the wee hours.

The room was ok, but just ok. It showed heavy use and wear. The bath had a moldy or mildew smell. The elevator was a bit odd, and we only used it out of amusement.

Breakfast was often crowded, and seating outside was often unavailable. Staff seemed frustrated and ill tempered suring that time.

The front desk staff was most helpful and could advise us to many different activities or restaurants. Service at the desk was great. We did use their computer with some difficulty, again the front desk staff came to our aid.

If I were to return to Luzern I would not stay in the city. After having seen some of the area, I would prefer to stay out of town in one of the spa resorts like Wegis.

This hotel was lovely and quaint. Great location, good breakfast, and helpful staff.
The location is the est thing. Right on the walkway by the Kappel Bridge. One or two minutes from most things.
I would recomend this hotel to anyone.
