“The view from our window was simply enchanting.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2011

Lucerne is a very expensive city, but Hotel des Alpes was reasonable by Lucerne standards, and it was absolutely wonderful. It was an easy walk from the train station and conveniently located for everything we wanted to do. We had a riverfront room, and the view was just amazing. I normally wouldn't think it was worth the extra money to pay for a room with a view, but this was worth every penny. It was so wonderful to wake up and look out at the swans floating on the river, with the Alps in the background. The hotel is quaint on the outside but modern and comfortable on the inside. The room was spacious (bathroom was small, but completely adequate), and the breakfast was very good. The staff were all very helpful, and the whole place had a very gemutlich feel to it. I would definitely stay there again if I return to Lucerne!

Room Tip: Get a river view if you can afford it.

We arrived at the hotel after driving in from Zurich. Even though I had asked, only when we got there, parking on the street and shleping the bags with us to the hotel, did we learn that it is possible to drive into pedestrian area to unload and load luggage.
The woman at the reception did not seem to excited about us arriving, was occupied with computer. We received two rooms on second floor facing alley, which was OK.
The rooms are small but comfortable. The bathrooms seem to have been refurbished recently so they were OK. Breakfast is simple (European standard).
Location is fantastic! Across from Kapellbruke
Breakfast after 09:00 is a bit hectic and the woman who runs the dining room does not have much patience...to say the least.
We had dinner one night in the hotel restauraunt downstairs - Stay Away!!
Fish and Chips are terrible!!!

The woman at the reception did not even bother to greet us when we arrived at the hotel. She appeared to be totally absorbed by something in the computor. We waited for her to finish. She then processed our check in a very mechanical manner. Fortunately we had met many Swiss people in the hospitality sector by then to know that many of them are very friendly and helpful. We stayed at two rooms on the top fifth floor. Each room had a fantastic view of the Chapel bridge, which was the only good thing during our two night stay. Being on the top floor, the rooms became really hot from the direct sun. There was no air-conditioning. When we raised our concern about our rooms to the staff at the reception, she simply asked us to leave the window open throughout the night. This did not make our rooms cooler. Leaving the windows open also allowed the spiders to come into the rooms. We went back to the reception the following day and saw a different staff member. She was more friedly and arranged two fans for us, however, the heat retained in the room was so intense that the fan did not seem to do much. One of the rooms had a sensor light in the bathroom which kept switching off during the shower. The buffet breakfast was the worst among the four Swiss hotels that we stayed at.

Room Tip: Go to a hotel with air-conditioning.

We stayed here for 2 nights as part of a "Tops of Switzerland" package and would not stay here again.
Our bed fell apart twice on the first night therefore we had to move ourselves and our luggage at 2am. We had very disrupted sleep and had no apology from management or reception. We found the lady in reception to be quite abrupt / rude with us.
Delivery Vans and rubbish trucks begin arriving at daylight and are very noisy on the cobbled streets. There is also a small noisy fountain/tap outside in the street. At night people are (naturally) wandering about and the noise carried up into our room - even with windows closed. No air conditioning in rooms. Automatic sensor lights in bathrooms which take ages to switch off - annoying at night.
Rooms had a kettle, tea and Coffee - much appreciated. The room and bathroom were very clean.
We are just ordinary, quiet travellers who appreciate a clean, quiet, comfortable room with helpful reception staff.

Room Tip: Maybe a river front room would be quieter?

A well maintained older Swiss style hotel. The bathroom in our river view room had very recently been completely fitted out with the latest shower, toilet and vanity.
The room it self was spotless and quite reasonable in size for Europe.
Perhaps the TV needs replacing with a flat screen, but, hey,did you come here to watch TV?????
Everyone at reception was great, remember you are in another country and people act differently according to the culture. We left something in our room and the lady at reception had it mailed to our next hotel before we arrived . Only the Swiss can manage that. The Swiss are always polite but reserved at first.
Breakfast was the usual European buffet style with heaps of bread meats cheese and fruit juice etc.
Overall a good hotel with reasonable prices for Switzerland and Lucerne in particular.

The Hotel is just across the river from the railway station no more than a ten minute walk.
The room we had was on the river side of the hotel and was very clean and the beds were comfortable. The views from the window were very good indeed.
The continental breakfast with a good and varied choice.

The location is really charming and right in the pedestrian zone, yet only a 5min walk to the train station. Our room was nicely furnished, romantic, and clean. We had a great view of the new year's celebration on the bridge with fireworks, right outside our window. Breakfast was nice, and dinner at the hotel restaurant was average. I was excited to have free wifi from our room, but one night, we had to stay in sick with a cold, and unfortunately went to bed hungry because the hotel restaurant wouldn't do room service.
