When we arrived at this hotel, we were so thrilled to see the old world European beauty and charm. The charm continues throughout this lovely hotel. Our room was huge, and we even had our own balcony, with a view of the lake! The local buses stop right outside the hotel, and they are very inexpensive. The only downside, at this hotel, is the charge for wifi, 5 francs for 24 hours.

Very nice looking building, rooms are decent, but the air conditioning does not work very well. If you like to walk, the hotel is located close to the promenade which is very well shaded by trees. It is a great way to see the lake and view the mountains.

Facing the lake, get up early for an early morning jog around the lake and spot the beautiful swans and ducks. 10 minutes walk to Casino Luzern and another 10 minutes walk further to the town centre.

The room is huge and even bigger is the attic room meant for honeymooners. My parents got the attic room. Breakfast is okay.

Wifi is payable at CHF5 for 24 hours.

Room Tip: Facing lake.

Where to begin?

Let's start with the pros:

- It's a good 20-30 minute walk from the hotel to the city center. (Although you won't enjoy walking to and from the hotel for more than 2 days, you'd probably get tired of it.)
- I heard from some of my groupmates that the rooms were recently renovated; I liked how our room have 2 separate cabinets for the coats and other personal belongings which makes it more personalized instead of having a shared cabinet with your roommate.

Now with the cons (and there are tons):
- There aren't any basic amenities in your 4-star room such as water pot / water heater, packets of tea or coffee, coffee mugs, complimentary bottled water, etc.
- We requested for coffee mugs with hot water at the reception, however, they told us they don't deliver up to the room so we'd have to come down the lobby and grab a couple of mugs ourselves.
- Wifi isn't free, not even in the lobby area. You'd have to pay CHF5 for 24 hours, other than that, you'd have to put up with their slow internet connection!
- It's also difficult to change clothes in the bathroom, there aren't any wall hooks anywhere.
- There aren't any wall sockets near the bed as well to charge phones. You'd have to get up and walk towards the TV area to charge your gadgets or look at them in the middle of the night (in case you're traveling from a different time zone).
- The reception service in the morning is cranky and isn't much awake or helpful. (Thanks a lot.)

Overall, I felt I've had better service in a 3-star hotel and other 4-star hotels than this.

We arrived apparently after they completed renovations in the lobby. The hotel has a nice large porch you can sit out on with a wonderful view of Mt. Pilatus! Our rooms were adequate - although there was no iron, no coffee maker and no washcloths! Apparently, most Europe hotels don't have washcloths! We found the hotel in a nice location and about a 20 minute walk into town. The walk along the lake in the evening was very nice and a view of the town lit up was quite beautiful. We had dinner in the hotel and our host was very pleasant and helpful- very happy! We enjoyed the dinner and although the special was about 35 euro each, felt we don't mind splurging once in awhile! The breakfast buffet was small - but adequate.

Room Tip: buy washcloths at your local dollar store to use and toss out!

What made this hotel for me was the staff. Stephanie at the front desk helped me with directions and was friendly and helpful with the guests who here ahead of me. The young man from Macedonia who ran the dining room was a gem. The rooms are large and were very comfortable for me; the lobby and veranda truly spoke of a bygone era. Room decor was modern. Views from the front of the hotel are spectacular. I'm not a particularly fast walker and it only took me about 20 minutes each way along the lake to get into town. Take the 6 or 8 bus which stops a few steps from the front of the hotel to the center; if you think you'll be going back and forth several times get a day pass. If you are there on a Tuesday don't miss the fresh food market Unter der Egg on both sides of the river near the Chapel Bridge.

The hotel balcony has a very great view of the Lucerne lake and the Alps. I had a very pleasant stay in this hotel. When we arrived there was still snow which contributed to the great feeling of excitement. The room is not that spacious but It was clean. The bathroom is a little bit small, but it will suffice considering the very short stay we had. The breakfast was ok though it was almost always the same everyday. The staff were cheerful and friendly esp the waiter who was serving us on the night we arrived as well as the breakfast the next day.
