“Memorable weekend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 4, 2012

Very nice, classic European style hotel. The atmosphere in the hotel is very calm and relaxed with young friendly staff very helpful and happy. I enjoyed having dinner out the terrace with a lovely breeze from the lake and a fantastic view over one of the highest mountains in Switzerland, Mount Pilatus, and as well a fresh look with the wonderful garden in front of the hotel.
The room that i booked was a spacious, clean beautiful classic decorated room with a small balcony in front to enjoy every morning the view over lake Lucerne and Mount Pilatus. Housekeeping and front office staff were always available and able to accomplish my requests of extra items, and very quick, that was very important for me.
The hotel also is very near to the city just 5 minutes by bus, therefore it is a very accessible location just next to the lake where I had a very long walk along the lake and took some memorable pictures as well.

To sum up the service provided by the hotel was as expected, warm and welcoming staff, spacious clean room, breath taking views and very close to city center. For a weekend get-away in a classical, elegant but yet contemporary hotel located in a wonderful and great city as Lucerne, Grand Europe hotel would be great!

The hotel is nice and very old style European with a great view from our room of Lake Lucerne and Mount Pilatus. The major problem was that there was no air conditioning and even with the windows open it was too warm to be comfortable and get a good nights sleep.

I like the beautiful garden in front of the hotel with the seaview just across the road. The hotel waiting area is very classic european style. For internet connection, i brought a card at hotel reception counter that cost CHF15 for 3 hr usage. You can just login 5 minutes using your handphone for internet, then log out to keep your remaining hour for another day. I went Lucern to shop for Rolex watch. However, surprisingly they are running out of sport model that i wanna buy. (i got what i want in Paris at later stage) I thought isn't it great to buy a swiss made watch in Switzerland.. However, after comparing the Swiss Frank & Euro with its respective tax refund for tourist, i found it relatively cheaper to buy Rolex watch in Paris than Switzerland.

After reading the previous reviews I feel like I stayed in a different hotel then the other reviewers. I stayed as part of a group tour for two nights. The hotel looks like a once grand hotel that is beginning to fray at the edges. The staff was not the friendliest and refused to look at the tour lists to find me when a call came in from the states!! I had to be contacted by e-mail. My room faced the courtyard and had no AirCon, but it was cool at night. I was awoken at 4AM on the second night by the trash collectors---it seemed to go on for 20 minutes. Breakfast was served to multiple tour groups simultaneously, which led to long lines. The selection was poor compared with other hotels. Dinner was only OK, but the waitstaff was nice. My room was clean and spacious, but could use some updating. The location is a 15 min walk, very pleasant, from the wooden bridge/downtown. By bus it takes 2 minutes. I doubt that I would want to stay here again.

Room Tip: Some may have AC. Front rooms have nice lake views.

The hotel is very stately and sits across from the lake. The rooms are average-sized for this part of Europe and air conditioned. There is a separate water closet and the lights in the room are motion sensitive. I actually saw one of the housekeeping staff on her knees cleaning the hall carpeting with a brush! The room was spotless as were the bathrooms on the main floor. The breakfast buffet was good with lots of variety. The hotel is in walking distance of the old town and is also on the bus route to old town. The bus stop is right outside of the hotel.

Entering this hotel, you immediately get the feeling of grandness you can only get in hotels from the beginning of the previous century or older. High ceilings, wide wooden stairs, art, a beautiful garden...just the complete package. Personel at the reception is very helpful and friendly, and the rooms offer a perfect mix of modern luxury and classical beauty. Although some bigger groups were staying in the hotel, this never bothered us, and the atmosphere remained quite intimate. The breakfast buffet had a lot of variety and choosing a table at the window, we enjoyed it every morning with a view of the lake. Leaving the hotel, you just have to cross the street to arrive at the lake and the boardwalk leading into the heart of the city (10 min walk). Luzern is an amazing city, and the lake and mountains just make it one of the most romantic places I've ever visited. I will definitely go back, and can advise this hotel to anyone in search for romance and beauty.

Room Tip: We had a room with view on the lake and the mountains. Just amazing scenery to enjoy when you wake u...

Our 3 night-sojourn in Luzern at Grand Hotel Europe was the asset to our week long trip in Switzerland. Yes, we read both positive and negative views of this hotel before choosing it. We trusted our intuition and we were right. The room is spacious and clean. Its old architecture with French window provide more wind channel despite Summer heat. The staff, though kept at minimum, are enthusiastic, efficient, and willing to take questions, as well as providing quick response. It is a touristy hotel, but FITs would still find peaceful corners. Never mind a walk to downtown; it gives us time and space too enjoy Luzern more. We love the chandeliers, high cieling room amongst the modern touch of amenities. Try to swim in the lake in front of the hotel. It will give you a memory of life time. Intravisit A. (Thailand)

Room Tip: Ask for corner suite. If possible, indicate the lake-view room in your booking. You will have a re...
