Unlike most of the Gothic style churches one would find in Europe, this church is of the Baroque style which is more recent (1666AD), consists of cleaner and less complex lines with paintings on walls and ceilings. When you first enter the church, the white interior and gold trimming on some of elements and structures will leave you awestruck. A visit need not take more than 10 minutes and can be done as part of a walk around the old town although this church is across the bridge from the traditional old town and near modern Lucerne.

We when on a day trip from Zurich to Luserne and specifically Mt Titlis.. It was recommended by the tour guide that we must visit, not only the famous Lion monument (beautiful) and the famous Chapel bridge (stunning) in the hour we had in Lusern but also the Jesuitenkirche.

What a gem!!!! This church has the WOW factor. It is not comparable in SIZE to the European cathedrals and churches BUT in beauty it doesn't have to stand back. Now, I've been from St Pauls Cathedral (London) to St Peters C (Rome) and many cathedrals and churches in between twice. In MY opinion this smallish church is by far the most beautiful and spectacular of them all. The pinkish, brownish and mustard colour of the interior makes it so unique and different to the other Holy places. I could not stop taking photos. It was just magnificant to sit in this church and take in the beauty. If you have 5 minutes to spare in Luserne---rush to this church near the Chapel bridge and the river and take a look. It will be time well spend.

As one steps out from the Kapellbrucke on the other end, you will find this beautiful church just a few steps away.. The exterior is not very impressive but inside, you could not help but be awed by its beauty. It was built in 1666 by Austrian & Italian architects & believed to be the most beautiful Baroque church in Switzerland with its rose & white plaster work which embellishes an ethereal white interior. A massive pink altarpiece forms the front of the sanctuary & although it resembles marble, it is actually stucco & plaster. This church is dedicated to St. Francis Xavier.

Even if you are not a "church visitor" when you travel, you will want to see this church in Luzern. It's interior is Barock, and not the Barock you will see in Germany, but very light, white, and open, and inviting. Surprise yourself, and check out this beautiful structure from the inside.
