The hotel is kinda small and seem to be almost entirely staffed by a large number of Asian students; which is fine except there is a bit of overcrowding in corridors from time to time!

The price is not cheap for this hotel yet no breakfast is included in the price and there are no tea and coffee facilties in the room and 0.33cl bottles of water are charged at $6!

The front desk staff are very helpful, the location is great and the tiny pool could be fun if staying as a couple or family.

Room staff need to learn that the 'do not disturb' sign means that. If it is on then the room cannot be cleaned and the occupier knows that.

The dangerous thing about the hotel (easily remedied) was that the fire doors were routinely propped open with laundry baskets (and room rubbish) throughout the day. This is undoubtably against the law and not a great idea!

Firstly we booked for the Rosli Guest House but got an upgrade to Baslertor. The hotel was good for budget travel. Breakfast was nice. You cannot walk from the railway station to the hotel with luggages because the Lucerne traffic is hectic. Overall a good stay.

We stayed in this hotel while passing through Lucerne in August. It was Good, clean hotel. Great if you are passing through Lucerne. Might not want to stay longer then one evening. It had a nice out door swimming pool and the location was great. Just a five min walk across the bridge into the old city.

I booked our reservation at the cheaper Hotel Pension Rosli but because we were there in the shoulder season (May), we were given a room in the Baslertor. Our room was VERY small and the bathroom even smaller (it looked like it used to be a closet - long and narrow), but since we needed it only as a place to sleep, it met our needs. We agreed to the breakfast charge (they ask your preference when you check in), but it wasn't work the price (18). But the location can't be beat - you walk out the door and you're right in the middle of things. Two short blocks over is the Reuss River and tons of restaurants and shops. Luzern is a very picturesque city and having our hotel be close to it all was a great feature.

I was alarmed at many of the online reviews I discovered just before we were due to stay here. We normally stay 4 - 5 star hotels but I wanted my daughter to experience family style hotels whilst in Europe too...
The hotel was for its rating quite fine, I believe that some of the 'scathing' reviews from people were not realistic unless you are expecting 4 - 5 star rating.
We arrived early at check in day and our cases were stored without issue, the hotel is a 2 - 5 min walk to the main area of Lucerne so we set off until we could check in. Apparently there was housekeeper staff shortage on the day. We arrived back a little before check in time and a room was available to us within 5 minutes. The room was clean and met the star standards. Housekeeping was good each day. Yes the hotel might need a paint around window sills ect but again it was to the rating.
We were given maps on arrival however it may have been helpful for staff to explain on the map where we were... Also only soap on tap, I took soap and shampoos ect with us.
The bar staff were lovely, the pool fantastic and we used it every day we were there... the balcony outside near the pool was also great. Breakfast was excellent and included in our price it was far cheaper than other 4 star hotels I stayed in Europe in 2012. The fan over the beds in our room was also very welcomed during a hot summer stay..I agree the owner might be abit 'testy' at times but if you approach him correctly and don't take his personality personally you will get on fine. We wouldnt hesitate on returning to the hotel.

Room Tip: If you are there in warmer months a room with a fan.. also note whilst there is a lift (small one) t...

We stayed here as part of a bike tour. Everything went wrong starting with check-in. The owner was exceptionally rude. Once we checked in, we noticed a very strong sewage smell in our room. There were bugs and spiders in the room. We could not get over the smell. It was awful.

The room was not clean.

The only positive was the breakfast was decent.
