Stayed here while on a package trip to Switzerland. Location was right beside the railway station (3min walk) where you can take trains across Switzerland. There are also eateries and a supermarket within the station. Very convenient if you need to get your necessities (water, etc) from here.
Walkable to attractions like the chapel bridge, as well as the beautiful lake. Safe area where you can venture around the shops "Old Town", river at night/ morning on your own.
Hotel was average, with wifi provided at the lobby. Breakfast was standard (cereal, eggs, cheese, bacon, juices, bread, etc). Decent, and good enough for a stay. Rooms were big enough for us to open two large suitcases and we had a balcony as well.
I was very happy with our stay at Hotel Monopol, The front desk were very helpful and showed us where to go on the map they provided. The breakfast was very sufficient as with most breakfast's provided in Europe lost of cuts of meat salad eggs bread tea coffee and juice also fruit yogurt and cereals. the pillows are very large and super fluffy, while i prefer a more smaller pillow and firmer i can not fault this hotel. I was a change to be on a high floor. The bathroom was very spacious along with the rest of our room.
right beside the train station, starbucks and mcDonald's below. Location is perfect.
just across the road junction is the chapel bridge.
interior needs some upgrading but then again, when in Luzern, why stay indoors?
We were upgraded from Hotel Alpina to Hotel Monopol, Luzern.
The room looks new and was big, very clean and comfortable. Location was excellent, across the road from the Central train station. So near to the Lake and Chapel Bridge and 'Old Town'. Very convenient to walk around and explore beautiful Luzern. Very friendly staff. Looking forward to re-visit.
My story sounds similar to others, in that we booked at the Alpina but got transferred to the Monopol. We were told that due to our inconvenience we had an upgraded room but i think it was more like a downgrade as the Alpina was more the type of hotel we were looking to stay at.
The Monopol is an impressive looking establishment from the outside but is outdated on the inside. I think the presence of a large McDonalds and Starbucks in the ground floor says it all with the small hotel desk being pushed to the rear.
You cant beat the location for convenience to the station but i think i would have been more than happy to have walked a few more blocks for a better experience.
