“An iconic landmark in Luzern perfectly located for the sightseer and close to shopping, railway station and lake cruisin”
Reviewed August 10, 2012

Built in the grand style of the late 19th century, this hotel has been well looked after and retains the grace of yesteryear but with the refinements of the 21st century; we were luck to have an upgrade, which provided us with two very large windows overlooking the lake. The room was spacious and comfortable, no air-conditioning which was a bit of a problem as the temperature outside was getting up to the 30c mark, bit a fan was provided and this provided some relief from the heat. There was a brief note from the hotel staff about the lack of air-conditioning that due to the historic nature of the hotel they were prevented from incorporating this feature? Staff were helpful in providing the upgrade and also the best solution for car parking which was a scratchy card which cost 20CHF per day provided you parked in the “blue zone” which basically covered a fairly large area around the hotel streets. I think the times were from 9am till 6 pm after that it was free. The hotel is fairly easy to find but the entrance/reception area is more difficult as it is in a side road on the western side of the hotel. Also on the ground floor level there is a McDonalds, a bar which is not connected to the hotel and a coffee shop just to add to the confusion. As with most European hotels there is no tea and coffee making facilities and the mini bar charges are expensive. Just across the road in the railway station is a supermarket where the beer and soft drink prices were significantly better if you want better value for money.
Overall a very pleasant experience and would recommend this hotel for a stay of a few days.

Everyone else's reviews are on the money. It is a great old hotel, well situated very close to railway station. No Wi Fi unless you pay. No airconditioning so summer visits can be a little warm to hot. It was very expensive in my view at euro 244, could be just our time of visit. Reception is good, rooms are good, and the hotel is well looked after for an historic building. Rooms can. E noisy if you leave your double glazed windows open for freaks air or in an endeavour to cool down, however if you close them vittually all noise is eliminated.

Room Tip: Don't stay here if summer heat worries you, as hotel has no aircon. Other than that and price a...

would look at it as a higher 3 star or basic 4 star property.
excellent location for travelers as is right opposite the station .
decently good size room & bath. but no great room views as is surrounded by buildings.
nice breakfast . Cafe / Pub / Pizza shop below the Hotel.
was also pleased to see my country flag on the hotel among other few countries.

Monopol hotel location is perfect, just across the train station. It s nice classic hotel and the price also is pretty cheap for a swiss standard ( hahahah cause I choose for 1 bedroom and they have a sofa bed , so it s a really good deal as the room size also not small ). Overall for 80 CHF a night this really a very good deal for a swiss hotel with a perfect location

Room Tip: chapel bridge is just 10 min walk from the hotel

Stayed here for two days on our trip to Lucerne. Very comfortable but a little expensive. No air conditioning so it can be warm during the summer months. WiFi is expensive but you can use the WiFi at the Starbucks in the lobby for free. Excellent breakfast every morning.

Room Tip: Try and get a room on the front side of the hotel for the best view. They might have more noise bec...

the hotel is situated right outside the luzern bahnof (station) ..the hotel staff is very friendly and helpful.. they helped us with the map, routes, places to visit, shopping, restaurants etc..they have another hotel by the name of alpina...alpina and monopol share the same reception and there is an alley that connects the two hotels.. there is an awesome pasta joint in the alley.. not expensive and very tasty.. dont remember the name though..but its a small outlet at the end of the alley..
Rooms are nice.. bathrooms are clean and big.. breakfast spread is good..
