“Blows away any Ritz or Four Seasons...Amazing does not begin to describe it.”
Reviewed May 20, 2013

Stayed for 5 days in May. This place is what it's all about. amazing service, amazing staff, amazing rooms....try getting a $8000 Bang & Olufsen stereo at a Ritz or Four Seasons...you won't....every detail is incredibly thought out from the lighting scheme of the rooms to the whirlpool tub, balconies with AMAZING views of Chapel Bridge over the Rousse (sp?) and Mt. Pilatus peaking in the background. Step out and you are in the middle of SHOPPING HEAVEN!...amazing cafe's, shops, watches, chocolate, cameras, etc.etc..very close to the train station, close to the post office, close the the lake cruise boats....I can't say enough about this boutique hotel which in my opionin is 6 star luxury...way underrated. The other "big" hotels, are way too stuffy and don't have anywhere near the kind of view you get from the balconies at this hotel. HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Room Tip: Make sure to get a balcony view over the water...swans, bridge, mountains...you WILL NOT be dissapoi...

This is our second time staying at this remarkable hotel on the river, across from the beautiful Jesuit Church. We returned again after four years, as we fell in love with the enchanting city of Lucerne. We flew in to Zurich, and took the short train from the airport to The train station in Lucerne, pulling our luggage to the hotel. Our room, 504, was requested! Yes, it is a small room, but the balcony is huge, with an automatic awning, two chairs, small table and chase lounge, and the view of the church and river is to die for!
In your room is a safe, adapter, mini bar, and a darling bathroom which has been updated. The front desk is very helpful, yet some things are lost in translation, and to be expected. Breakfast is very good, and has a great variety. If you don't see something just ask. Remember, this is Switzerland and air conditioning is not in this hotel. The people are wonderful and yes, the culture is different, but that is what makes it so a fantastic place to visit. I truly believe that I am in fairy tale land!

Room Tip: They have rooms with Juliet balconies and larger ones. You must request a larger room facing the ri...

....which you wold expect for the price, its not cheap but its absolutely central, service is faultless. Only gripe is they could include breakfast when you are paying that rate - 300+ CHF per night, breakfast is another 27 CHF. Its certainly worth it and all the meals there were outstanding.

Room Tip: Get a room over the river with a balcony for the best views.

The location is superb, and the view from the rooms facing the river is out of this world! We found the room and bathroom very clean, no carpets which helps for the cleanliness. Decorated in a minimalistic style, maybe not with great taste, but OK. It seems too pricey for the quality of the room, you pay a high premium for location and view.

We found it to be a real problem that the rooms have no air conditioning, we stayed at the hotel in May, and at night the weather was cool, so we slept with the windows open and then temperature was OK. The downside was that we woke up early due to the light coming into the room and noise from nearby construction.

If you want to be in the best area of Lucerne, this is the spot to be. In fact, any of the hotels along the river are in the old town so don't be misled thinking you want to be down by the lake. You will get the lake, but you are a 10 minute walk to everything else. You are right in the heart of old town, shops, restaurants, cobblestone streets, the flower market. The hotel is beautiful on the outside and walking up you will get the "wow" factor. Either side of the hotel offers views you will like but the best of course are the views of the river and the covered walkway (which in summer has flower boxes hanging from it) and a beautiful church out your window. You can walk here from the train station if not carrying much luggage otherwise I'd recommend a taxi. Taxi's are very expensive in Lucerne (as is everything else).

Room Tip: Facing the river if you can afford

We stayed for two nights in April 2013. We drove in a rental car, and initially we couldn't figure out how to get to the hotel down the pedestrian only walkway. Fortunately I had the hotel information in my phone and called them. The receptionist very helpfully directed us (in English) and we found that if you are staying at the hotel you are allowed to drive down the pedestrian only "old town" street. This is a piece of information I wanted to pass along as we would never have figured it out otherwise!

The price is high, but the room is beautiful and spotless. Very new bathroom. By European standards, quite large. We had a small terrace and a view of the lake, and I highly recommend this. We ordered room service (and since we eat light this was much cheaper than the buffet breakfast option) and everything we ordered was delicious. In fact, the second morning I slept through the room service knock! Realizing what happened, I telephoned room service. She informed me that they had thrown our food away when we didn't answer, but she would prepare a second tray for free! It arrived within minutes. Excellent customer service. We also enjoyed the welcome drink at the beautiful bar. Didn't try the restaurant as we preferred to eat in the old town at a more traditional restaurant.

Room Tip: Choose a river view when possible
