A pleasant hotel, well located (just a short, slightly uphill walk from the centre of the town).
We had booked a superior room with a balcony, and this was adequately sized and equipped. The bathroom was rather small, but provided everything we needed, including an efficient over-bath shower.
On one of our two evenings, there was a short drinks reception in the lounge area before dinner, with some jolly music from a delightful little barrel-organ. Although we were on bed & breakfast, we opted to have the set four-course dinner one evening – which consisted of a salad buffet, soup, main course (with choice) and dessert. We thought this was very good value (for Switzerland!) at 35 francs per person – Good food, nicely presented, and served in a pleasant dining room.
Breakfast was a well-presented standard buffet.
We thought drinks in the hotel were very reasonably priced (for Switzerland!)
All staff were friendly and efficient. The hotel owner spoke excellent English and was helpful in organising tickets for the cable car to Mt Titlis, and in advising on walking in the area.

The owners and of this hotel make it wonderful. They are friendly and extremely knowledgable about the area and activities in the valley. The rooms are simple, but the staff is welcoming and It's in a great location. Breakfast is good too. I would recommend this hotel. They definitely made a positive impact on our trip

This is located very close to the starting point for Mt. Titlis, the hotel is well maintained, good rooms, nice view from the rooms, kinda on a hill. We had a great time, hospitality is great. They have a nice play room with lot of board games and Fuse -ball, we totally enjoyed playing and chiling out there. Overall, its a good play to spend 2-3 days & very easy to go to Mt. Titlis from here.

Upon arrival from an overseas flight, we found the simple and cozy rooms clean and the views nothing short of amazing. The playrooms(there are 4!) for the kids and the play area outside gave us just the right dose of family welcome we needed until we went down for dinner and the kids found a fully detailed train set pulling a variety of desserts set up on a table in the middle of the dining room, again amazing views from the dining room. We gobbled down the delicious food, kids opted for the adult entre cote vs nuggets(boo) and we all passed out early with the owner even shutting down the overpowered spot lights on the hotel so that we could sleep in darkness, an issue they are working to change they say. Day two, we return from a day out to find a babysitter available to watch over and play with the kids from 5-9 in the play areas. Now mommy was thrilled and went for a soak in the fantastic sauna room! Albeit an aging hotel, the charm, warmth and wholehearted knowledge of family needs will keep us returning for sure.

We did like the friendly family-owned atmosphere and the location of this hotel is excellent with beautiful views on the village and mountains. The hotel has a classic look (inside and outside). Our room was booked to sleep two adults + 2 children but was really smaller than we ever imagined and the 3 nights we stayed was really the maximum I could live with. Besides that the comfort of our bed (very tough) was limited. So quality of room: poor, but friendly staff, food and beatiful environment improved our overall rating to an "average".

Other comments: Switzerland has become too expensive since I have last been here. To visit the Titlis mountain station as a family of 4 you would pay more than EUR 200 for the ticket... We decided to take the closeby and much cheaper Brunni and walk to the Härzlisee (experience path for kids) which is nice with kids! Also in beautiful Lucerne we were quite surprised by the price level of restaurants and bars - a very simple lunch for EUR 100 is not unusual. Compared to Italy and Germany (that we visited afterwards) this is really double price level.

Room Tip: We did not like our room because of its size so I would recommend to inquire room sizes to decide wh...

Dear Family Savert

Thank you very much for your review of your recent holiday with us at Hotel Edelweiss in Engelberg. We always appreciate constructive critic about our hotel and services.

Great, that you enjoyed the atmosphere, the classic look of our house, the children’s facilities and the location with beautiful view over Engelberg and the mountains!

I’m truly sorry, that the size of the room could not meet your expectations! I absolutely agree with you that a double room superior is a bit small for 2 adults and 2 nearly teenage children.
Unfortunately we are not involved in how the travel agency you booked through presents our rooms to the customer and I regret, that they didn’t communicate the real size of the room clearly enough.
As you said, the main problem of Switzerland is the high cost. As the EUR-CHF course went down from 1.55 to 1.2, everything in Switzerland just got 25% more expensive for all Europeans while our costs stayed the same. Switzerland was always expensive, but now it’s worse than ever. That’s why we give our double rooms superior for 2 adults and 2 children as a cheap possibility for families, who want to come to Switzerland, but don’t want to spend twice as much money as in the rest of Europe. We always mention, when we sell the room ourselves, that the comfortable occupancy would be 2 adults.
I will personally check with the travel agency, for an eventual need to change the presentation of the room, to make this more clearly for future customers.

I sincerely hope that you will give us the chance to restore your faith in our house another time in one of our family apartments, which are spacious and comfortable for a family like you.

Sincere Regards, Peter Kuhn, Managing Owner

We travelled to this hotel as part of an Inntravel tour. We were made to feel so welcome, the owners supplying anything we needed, like a travel adaptor and more pillows. They went out of their way to make our holiday special, suggesting extra walks and drawing maps for us to follow, telling us which restaurants were the best and giving us lots of information on what the town has to offer.
The rooms were simple, but perfectly adequate, with stunning views over the mountains. What set this hotel apart from the rest was the wonderful service and welcome we received.

My wife and I just spent three nights at the Edelweiss in Engelberg. The hotel presents a good value and the staff could not have been friendlier, especially the owner/manager Susanne.

The hotel sits a little above the town which means that many of the rooms have a wonderful view. They have an excellent chef who put on a wonderful buffet on Saturday night.

If we get back to Engelberg we would be happy to stay at the Hotel Edelweiss again.

Room Tip: Ask for a view room.
