Before we even arrived at the hotel, the staff at the Ski Lodge Engelberg went above and beyond to help us plan our trip. They researched train schedules and transportation options to and from the hotel, and offered to make arrangements on our behalf.

We had an extremely long day of traveling from Italy and missed the final train to Engelberg. Without hesitation, Lisa from the front desk offered to pick us up from the train station in Luzern. She drove 1.5 hrs there and back in the blizzard just to pick us up and make sure we made it to Engelberg that night. When we arrived at the hotel, the staff recommended places to rent our skis/snowboards, how to get around town, and offered to help make our transportation arrangements back to the airport.

The rooms were simple, clean and comfortable. The bed linens and comforters were much nicer than most hotels. The room was not huge, but there was plenty of space for two people.

The food from their dining room was also fantastic. Chef Rukas served incredible food, much more than you might expect from a ski lodge. There was no need to find any other restaurants in Engelberg as the chef made some of the best food in town. The only downside was perhaps the breakfast, which was nothing special, but this was still minor compared to the wonderful dinners and terrific service we enjoyed during our stay.

If you are looking for a very nice, comfortable, clean place to stay, with excellent staff and service, in a great location, then there is no better choice. Whenever we return to Engelberg, we know where we will stay again.

Wow, thank you Loucas & Claire!

I passed your words on to Lisa, the fearless blizzard driver, and chef Rukas too and they say hi. If you have the time, please give us hints on what you would like to see on the breakfast buffet as well to improve it to eric@skilodgeengelberg.com. Hope to meet you here again!

My partner, her sister and I stayed in a triple room at the Ski Lodge Engelberg over a weekend in mid-December. The choice was made relatively close to our departure date, choosing the resort based on the snow reports but also from all the positive feedback around this particular hotel.

Our expectations had been set high by the reviews on the Ski Lodge Engelberg and we were not disappointed by what we found. We arrived very late at night (2am - thanks British Airways!) and unfortunately no staff were up to meet us, understandably, but having spoken with the hotel on the phone keys were strategically made available to us and we were able to find our way to our large, clean, modern room without a problem.

The next morning we awoke to discover the continental buffet breakfast. A good choice of breads, salmon and meat as well as yoghurt and cereals. There were an array of drinks plus an orange juicer to freshly squeeze your own juice. The only suggestion I would make would that a hot option would improve the offering. Some porridge or hot eggs would have gone down well.

The Ski Lodge is situated close to the town centre and is no more than 50 yards from the closest ski bus. These run regularly and take you to the two main ski lifts which take you up to the Brunni or Titlis ski areas. Additionally, the Ski Lodge is directly in front of the Ski Jump which is useful if you are going to watch one of the competitions there.

In the evening we experienced a delicious Swedish Christmas smorgasbord. It was a real treat to experience a completely different cuisine to what one normally gets in the European Alps (I'm one who is completely fed up with fondue, raclette or tartiflette!). The array of foods was dazzling and we left completely full and happy. The only comment from my partner is that she would have preferred some more vegetable options. The price for the buffet was very good as a result of being guests in the hotel - for a short break, there was no need to eat elsewhere. Additionally, the bar area was comfortable, trendy and didn't play overbearingly loud music. All adds up to a great place to relax and chat about the days skiing adventures!

The staff were all friendly and helpful. They took care of all our needs such as pre-arranging ski passes and pointing us in the direction of items in the town centre. All done with a smile on their faces which was refreshing.

We fully intend on coming back to Ski Lodge Engelberg at a future date if the snow remains good and we can be fit in for another short break. I would have given 5* for all items in this review, but have marked the rooms down to 4* simply for the fact that the bathroom had no heating and as a result was freezing (outside was -17 so playing some part I would imagine). Thankfully there was good heating in the bedroom!

Glad you liked the Swedish smorgasbord! We were very well reminded last weekend that some of the bathrooms need extra heating, and I hope we will be able to get it fixed before you come back next time. The coldest night during you stay, we had 23 below, and 33 at the top! (brrrrrr....)

A big thank you for taking the time to review us, and hope to see you at Ski Lodge soon again.

Cheers!

The mostly Swedish crew of the Ski Lodge Engelberg does a fantastic job making experienced and novice skiers alike feel right at home. The rooms are clean and comfortable and we had a great view of the Alps. We enjoyed the breakfast, but he Skiers Dinner set 3-course meals were exceptional. The soups were especially nice after a day on the slopes and the main was always delicious – be it chicken, salmon, lamb or ostrich! The desserts always finished things off right. They also make wine selection easy with “Good”, “Better” and “Even Better” choices for both whites and reds. There is also a reasonable selection beyond in the extended wine list.

The young and friendly bar staff is very personable and great for recommendations for what to do around town or on the slopes.

All-in-all the Ski Lodge Engelberg provides world-class service and food without stuffiness. My wife and I are looking forward to returning with our daughter when she gets a little older. I can whole-heartedly recommend Ski Lodge Engelberg to anyone.

Thank you very much for taking the time to review us! We have really tried to step up the kitchen for this year, so we are very happy you like the cuisine. We hope to see you at the Lodge some time again, maybe with you daughter then.

Cheers.

Ski Lodge is a very friendly / casual place to stay as you can easily meet and discuss with fellow skiers over a drink after a day of powder. We never tried the restaurant for dinner but the breakfast buffet is fairly good with fresh orange juice you can squeeze yourself. Rooms are very simple and no frills. Double Beds are a little bit (less than queen size). Noise isolation was fine. Location is within easy walk to the bus station that will bring you to the ski lift. There is also an outside hot bath that we did not try.

With comfortable and spacious rooms, it's was nice to brighten up with morning coffee at the restaurant listening to cool acoustic music and enjoying the beauty of the surrounding mountains and the steep skiing track from the balcony. The place is a special treat for skiers!

The staff has great local knowledge about the mountain and are happy to share it. The hotel is modern and fresh compared to other typical standard ski hotels in the Alpes, new furniture and new bathrooms. The hardcore skier/boarder will fit right into the crowd. Staff is very young and seemed inexperienced but friendly. The food is excellent. The sauna has to be pre-booked at an extra fee.

Great place, from the grand dinner table overlooking the ski jump to the superb breakfast with homemade breakfast marmalade. This place is really a gem. Great food with a star-quality restaurant touch (they use foam!), relaxing bar (could really be the place to start & end your night), friendly staff (all Swedish, no further comment needed) and probably the closest hotel to the ski lift (these guys have the inside scoop on what is good on the mountain). The place is newly renovated and the rooms have a definite charm. Outside a beer garden, Jacuzzi and sauna!
