A 5* restaurant, with 5* service. Would expect no less from The Four Seasons Geneva.

The setting is formal, classy and elegant - the photos on the website are quite indicative.

We opted for the degustation menu - a superb choice, with a very good variety of dishes, and at a very competitive price (CHF 130 per person). The tastes were as refined as the rest of the experience.

In short, we'll be back - esp. when we feel like getting pampered and getting our share of royal treatment...

“Great food, great service, it's the 4 Seasons.”
Reviewed April 16, 2013

I had the special, and was very pleased. The staff was very accomodating to dietary restrictions. Like Geneva as a whole, overpriced but had a great, leisurey dinner.

“An Affair to be Remembered: Dinner at "Il Lago" at The Hotel des Bergues Four Seasons Genève”
Reviewed April 11, 2013

A toast…and a consomme…and risotto and more, along Lake Geneva
by Jamie Kiffel-Alcheh, Managing Editor of CleanPlates.com

As a health expert, I'm often asked what type of diet I advise. My pat answer: no preservatives, no processed foods, little to no white flour or white sugar, no fried foods and plenty of produce and lean meats. Try to eat in season and maintain reasonable portions; choose local and organic whenever possible. That leaves room for a lot--for example, an indulgent dinner served in very small portions over several leisurely hours. This was my experience at Il Lago ("the lake"), the exquisite restaurant at Hotel des Bergues, The Four Seasons Geneva.

In honor of my aunt's birthday, we decided to enjoy the tasting menu: a six-course meal (ChF. 130; approximately $135). What this turned out to be was much more than a meal: it was true gastronomic entertainment, served with flair and a lot of heart.

We were given "the best seat in the house": a corner table outside, overlooking Lake Geneva. At 8PM when we arrived, the sun was still illuminating the cobblestone street. We received a sign of how much attention would be paid to detail when we received purse hangers for our purses--one of my favorite healthy travel tools, keeping bags from touching the ground or from bumping into fast-moving waitstaff.

The first item out was a surprise amuse bouche of lobster on toast, and mini macarons filled with locally made blue cheese. Each piece was the size of a quarter, and evolved into a kaleidoscope of flavors on the tongue. Each might be rich, but the portions were perfect for launching what we knew would be a large meal.

The first course arrived: a miniature seafood stew in two or three bites, topped with succulent scampi and steeped in onion consommé. That was followed by miniature cheese tortellini with lemon and mint; another amuse bouche and then, a hearty dish of risotto with lobster. The next course arrived: a choice of goat or branzino (I selected the branzino, a sweet, white, roasted fish prepared with purple artichokes and a lemon emulsion).

The waitstaff in expensive hotels--this one is officially called a "palace," and at 178 years old, claims to be the first in Geneva--are often stodgy or cool. Not so at Il Lago. The waitstaff, maître d' and managers were not only kind and welcoming, but orchestrated a meal whose every detail was considered. However much time we wanted to finish a course, we were encouraged to take. And as a result, we sat for more than three hours enjoying taste after taste, eating the way one is meant to do--slowly--and savoring the experience.

The meal concluded with milk chocolate infused with kefir, a creation of chocolate and passionfruit mousses accompanied by scoops of frozen pistachio cream and marvelously crafted chocolate "signs" on each plate, written on dark chocolate in edible ink, with the restaurant's name.

In spite of the large meal, we left feeling that the only excess was our own happiness.

And that's heart-healthy.

“A delightful, high quality experience”
Reviewed February 13, 2013

We had never tried the restaurant in Les Bergues (the hotel), but had been to the bar several times which is actually a great place to "warm up". The views from the windows were some of the best in Geneva affording a classic view across to the "left bank" and old town but (more importantly) serve some pretty decent cocktails. Two or three martinis later we were ready for action. The high quality "bourgeois" decor is in perfect order and doesn't feel as though it has come out of a flat pack kit - as in some other FS hotels. The dining room is well decorated, proportioned and lit with well separated tables at which you could conduct business or have cosy tete-a-tete. Large windows in the dining room mean that some passers-by look in - and you have decide if this would bother you.Very comfortable.

The service is high quality, prompt, polite, discreet and knowledgeable; exactly as one would expect. The sommelier is very happy to talk about the wines and recommend interesting bottles which do not require a Private Bank account to cover. When we were there we picked some rather nice wines from Piemonte.

The food was very accurate and faithful to its description in the menu; high quality ingredients and very good preparation. The restaurant - despite its glitz - does not possess a *. But don't let this dissuade you from trying the place. Sometimes the "effort" of pushing for the creative edge produces a result that is like a couture show - great to watch but not really what you want to eat (or wear!). Lago has does not succumb to this vice - the chef is concentrating on producing delicious, high quality, tasty food that I personally would like to try again. There is a honesty to this food - and you certainly get what you pay for - that is very inviting and quite refreshing.

In all, I'd highly recommend this place, and look forwards to going back.
