Description: On the ground floor, the Restaurant Hotel du Parc des Eaux-Vives hosts a Brasserie with a terrace overlooking the lake. The kitchen team uses fresh, seasonal ingredients from the region for delicious creations such as perch filet from the lake. The restaurant also offers a sumptuous family brunch on Sundays. In summer, the restaurant A l'etage opens on the more intimate first-floor terrace with breathtaking views of the lake; the menu includes classic grilled fish and meat dishes, as well as a special selection of wines.

It's a superb location, it's a beautiful house and both deserve the five star rating. The windows overlook the lake, however they are tiny and guests are advised not to open them because of mosquitoes. The welcoming was a bit strange, as when going to the rooms the corridor was still full with plates form breakfast (at 5pm). The rooms are clean, welcoming chocolates are superb (the grand restaurant was to our misfortune closed that night) and we slept well.

Overall it's a good hotel, but the five star rating is overdone. It's something between a five star hotel and a good bed and breakfast. The location is good for sleeping and certainly for dining in the fabulous two star Michelin restaurant. If you have to do in Geneva there are hotels which are more centrally located.

“If in Geneva, if it's warm and if you've got the money...sure.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 22, 2013

Keep in mind that there are two restaurants here: La Brasserie and "A L'Etage". The former is on the first floor and offers a slightly more relaxed (democratic) menu/service, while the later takes themselves a bit more seriously.

We ate at "A L'Etage" last night (a wednesday). Our service was excellent. Our head waiter was named Vincent, but we had at least two others helping with service. Everyone here is a graduate of a hotel school, or perhaps doing their internship and so they take their work very seriously. They did an excellent job recommending wine, filleting our fish "à table", etcetera. I was surprised to hear so many people complaining about service. That was not my experience. The staff practices a professional/formal (French) service, but they are very approachable and friendly if they can be. The impressive and prices means that guests are most often intimidating/demanding OR meek and intimidated. If you're able to assume a relaxed role and are ready to be delighted, the staff will give you their best.

The food was excellent: presentation, quantity, temperature. Perhaps not ready for a Michelin star, but it would be petty to give anything but compliments to the chef. My wife's filet de fera is what I'd be ordering next time....beautiful.

Tips:
Don't bother going if too cold for outdoor seating. That said, take a sweater.
Although no dress code, you won't feel out of place in your best.
If you smoke, perhaps let staff know while making your reservation so that you'll be placed at the end of the terrace, (which isn't a bad place to be anyway).

Suggestions:
The wait-staff was a bit too French-oriented. Although they served local wine from Satigny and pork from Jussy, the staff had no real idea about the canton or beyond. And perhaps at least make the effort of counting in "Swiss" (first time to have heard the number "quatre-vingt-dix-neuf" spoken by a waiter here in Switzerland).

“Well worth treating yourself more than once a year!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2013

Our most recent dining experience at the Parc des Eaux Vives made us want to go back again. We had dinner at the restaurant “à l’étage” (not to be confused with the Brasserie) last Saturday night (17 Aug) in the summer warmth of a Geneva evening, with a wedding party taking place on the terrace below us. The service was second-to-none and the food out of this world (imagine as an entrée - one tomato prepared and served in three different ways, each preparation leading the next part of the dish – really?! See photo) We had wine by the glass as my husband prefers something more robust, whereas I like a lighter grape. When we explained our tastes, the recommendation given by Vincent was spot-on. We are reviewing Sat night’s experience; however, we would like to note that on a visit earlier in the year to the Brasserie we were sadly disappointed – neither the service nor the food was up to its usual standard. That being said, we have learned that Vincent is now the Deputy Maitre d’Hotel (we do hope that is the correct title…) and look forward to the usual tip-top service being well reinstated on our next visit to the Brasserie. While it is quite expensive to eat at either restaurant, so long as the service and food continue to be at the high standard of our most recent experience, we certainly believe that it is one well worth treating yourself to more than once a year!

“Fab location, overpriced.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2013

The restaurant is located in a beautifully manicured park, I would really advice to have a nice walk in before lunch. We were lucky enough to be there when everything was in flowers and it was stunning, we were shown to our table on the terrace and the view was just perfect. You can enjoy watching the boats on the lake from high up. Service was very friendly and professional. Menu offering was classic with a strong Italian influences. We had lobster salad to start followed by duck. The dishes were nice and well presented. We just felt that at an average of 30 Swiss Francs for a starter and 45 for a main it was really expensive for something which doesn’t have a Michelin star or anything like that. Of course, this is Geneva! Lots of very wealthy people around… shame to feel a bit ripped off after spending a couple of hours in a lovely settings but eating food which was average and not worth that.

“Only for view please”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Had dinner with hubby here. The menu was average and had only a few offerings that interested us. They serve compulsory starter apart from what we ordered. It cost us another CHF40.
They offered slow cooked chicken which I personally feel that it's accidental under cooked. Expensive but taste just normal. BUT the view down to the lake was nice and fantastic. The road up to the hotel/restaurant is very nice and there is an expansive lawn that goes down towards the lake. I would suggest a drink on the terrace rather than a meal.
