In the heart of Paquis, this restaurant serves delicious French food. We had Chateaubriand and Entrecôte with bone marrow sauce. All good. The place is also reasonably priced by Geneva standards. On an earlier visit, I had the Lyon sausage with lentils which was tasty. However, when we saw another table having the Chateaubriand, we decided to return the following week to taste it. They also have a decent wine list.

We had a "game/chasse" menu with a pheasant terrine and venison medallions that were as good as it can be. The steak and gratin dauphinois was also excellent.
The owner came to our table to enquire if we were satisfied and explained proudly with a slight Spanish accent that he runs this place with his family for the last 25 years.
It was our second visit and we heartly recommend it as a friendly warm place with excellent food and good value for money.

Bistrot du Boeuf Rouge is a charming neighborhood restaurant a few blocks from the Grand Hotels on Lake Geneva. On the evening we were there, the clientele appeared to be largely Swiss, not tourists. The restaurant was full and we did not have a reservation, but the staff squeezed us in to a small table near the kitchen that in fact gave us a great view of the dining room and other guests. Excellent food at reasonable prices given how expensive Geneva is in general, and in particular the weakness of the dollar to the Swiss Franc. The quenelle was, perhaps, the best we have ever tasted.

A bit too crowded even by bistro standards, but my party had a quite-good Chateaubriand and an excellent entrecôte with bone marrow. The service was friendly but efficient, and it's easy to see how, even on a Monday night, the place was jammed. Costs came to about SwF 40-50 for the main courses we had, but others on the menu ran less. A good place for people who know their food.

We were thinking of where to go for dinner and looked out of our hotel window to find this gem on my list. We walked across the street on the chance that we could get in when they opened and we were able to get the last and tiniest little table next to the kitchen. There was no disappointment. We enjoyed a rack of lamb encased in salt; roasted with vegetables and accompanied by the most divine scalloped potato Anna souffle I have ever enjoyed. Preceding the entree was a crusty freshly made ham and herb bread alongside a lovely and generously poured bowl of pumpkin soup. Dessert was a hefty slice of lemon tart and an equally generous fresh apple tarte tatin. The staff were lovely and a particular jaunty seasoned waited made our Guy Buffet look-a-like who fit into this very French shabby chic environment rather perfectly. It is quite pricey and that is an adjustment to make in Geneva in general. I thought on that first night that their wine pour was a bit stingy but that seems to be the standard 2 oz pour in Geneva whereas, we in California are more generous. In hindsight we should have just bought a bottle. I would definitely encourage a reservation be made as this seems to be very popular with locals in larger parties, celebrating special occasions. I loved it!
