The lake is beautiful. Make use of your free Tourist Transport ticket by using the Uniresco boats (the little yellow ones) to cross the lake. There are boat trips further north passing Coppet and Lyon but these are quite pricey and you don't get the opportunity to jump off and explore.

Lake Geneva is a very beautiful lake on a sunny day, As the population of Geneva is small, it is also very peaceful place to walk. Lake Geneva has a magnificent view of the surrounding mountains. On a fine day you may also see Mont Blanc.

There is an ornate structure on the landside of the lake, a few metres from Pont Mont Blanc which is the main vehicular bridge across the lake. One can't miss it. It is next to three of Geneva's five star hotels - the Richemont, the Beau Rivage and the Hotel de la Paix.

It is the mausoleum of Charles II d'Este-Guelph, Duke of Brunswick who died in 1893, three years after arriving in Geneva and lived at the Beau Rivage. He left his considerable fortune to the city of Geneva. Known as an eccentric, musician and linguist, he specified that the bequest was to build “a mausoleum in an eminent and worthy location, executed according to the established concept by the finest artists of the time, without consideration of cost”. His monument is an exact replica of the Scaligeri tombs in Verona, Italy, a work of the 14th century.

He was also a notable chess player and had a famous game with an American chess master called Paul Morphy who beat him and one Count Isouard in a game played while they were at the opera. As one chess historian has written: “While Morphy would have preferred to watch the opera he was instead forced to create one of the most beautiful games of all time. However, very few of us realize that the same Duke of Brunswick was one of the wealthiest lunatics of all time, and that his wealth and aspirations was rumored to have played a key role in an important historical event.”

Not far from the mausoleum, on the lakeside is a statue of a slim woman. It is a memorial to Elisabeth "Sisi" of Bavaria, Empress of Austria and Queen of Hungary who was assassinated by an Italian anarchist in 1898 while walking from the Beau Rivage where she was staying to catch a steamer to Montreux. Her only son, Prince Rudolf, died in the Mayerling incident).

The fountain was high and nice, but the lake was very much ordinary. I am not sure why people recommend this as a tourist spot. I did not find anything special in this lake. Just one among other ordinary lakes.
