“Subterranean wonderland”
Reviewed July 22, 2013

Okay, maybe that's pushing it. But it's a cool insight (down) into the architectural history of the cathedral and the many incarnations it has had during the centuries. Also a cool place to escape from the summer sun...

“Amazing experience”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

A wonderful experience and a maze of roman artefacts to wonder upon. The cool of the underground excavations offered relief from the 90 degree heat! Audio translation phones were available in all major languages - couldn't recommend this opportunity highly enough

“Very interesting museum to better understand the past of Geneva”
Reviewed July 2, 2013

This museum is really worth visiting.
You can spend in there more than 1h and can understand how Geneva has developed. Mostly you will learn how the cathedral was built over the last centuries. There is actually an archaeological site underground. Quite impressive! You even can see skeleton and underground wells as the cathedral as you can see today was built on a former foundation.
You also can watch videos and the audio guide is very exhaustive.

“Well worth a visit”
Reviewed June 28, 2013

The archaeological exhibit underneath Geneva's main cathedral is a very intriguing tour through the history of the site from pre-Roman times to the present. The cathedral is built atop what was originally the tomb of an Allobrogian tribal chieftain buried there around 100 years BCE. The self-guided tour takes you through the different religious/historical incarnations of the site where you can see the different building techniques and artifacts and learn about the practices in each period. Written descriptions at the various stopping points along the route are in French and English, but you can also borrow a personal audio player at the entrance with a pre-recorded narrative available in many languages. Afterwards, you can visit the cathedral itself and, if the weather is clear, climb the towers for a stunning view of the old city and the lake.
