The reformation wall is easily accessible, free of charge and great for tourists, right at the base of the Old Town of Geneva and serving as a great introduction to further studies into the Reformation. The people carved into the wall - why are they there? They are champions of Protestantism in one way or another, but from some points of view they are certainly not heroes. Calvin and his Genevan fellows orchestrated the barbaric killing of Michael Servetus; Oliver Cromwell had many an Irishman on his conscience ... so why are they given such a prominent spot in the city? Why is Martin Luther, the "father" of the Reformation, given only a small stone carving next to the wall? Who are these other people next to Calvin and why have most of us never heard of them?

The wall is a place for thought and afterthought, leaving a visitor with more questions than answers. We used it as a place to start our school lecture on the Reformation; it is an open space with stone stairs in front of which you can easily hold a small lecture. It serves as a great monument to open up for further studies, further discussion, further debate and further critique - exactly what the Reformation was all about.

impressive in its size and presence in parc des bastions, the reformation wall is just a small part of a larger experience you must experience. go up the hill behind the wall to the musee international de la reforme and start the experience. engulf yourself in the historical and religious influence of the reformation period at this wonderful museum. then go to the st. pierre cathedral right next door as a follow-up. then take the walk down the hill to the parc des bastions and the reformation wall...the wall it will then be put in historical and cultural perspective and despite its beauty, will be quite the site to experience.

Not surprisingly, the Reformation Wall is rather stark. It is located in a nice city park that is pleasant to walk in.

Nothing really signposting this but we figured out afterwards what it was

It entertained us for quite a while actually - translating the messages and figuring out who all the people were.
