In case people are looking for a fully service hotel, do not consider Staring Residence Geneva. Housekeeping services rooms only after 4 days, reception is only manned during the day and a restaurant does not really exist! Breakfast is a complete disaster. Either you need to buy a voucher at the reception or you pay per item that you take from the extremely poor buffet! Tried to take a beverage from the restaurant to the room and was told that this would not be possible? Very strange as the rooms do not feature minibars so how to have a drink in the room? Overall value for money is not the greatest but where do you find this in Geneva anyway?

I stayed here for ten days in May 2013. It is nice clean property with good rooms with good amenities. Rooms - called studios are spacious and have well equipped kitchen. The location is also OK - very near to the university and also right on Tram 15 stop so commuting is very easy with Geneva city pass that every guest gets. The two major challenges are the wifi - which is slow and difficult to connect particularly on smart phones. But the worst is the service. The staff is very rude and some times downright insulting. they charge over $200 a night but do not clean the rooms for 3-4 days at a stretch and even then they do not replace the basic things such as face napkins or shower gel as according to the desk "it is not their policy". No room service or restaurant , no swimming pool or Gym

The room was very spacious and clean and it was a good choice for one night stay on my business trip. The location was also good for my purpose and there is a tram stop in the front of the hotel and you get a free ticket upon your arrival. Free Wifi worked well. The staff was also very helpful and friendly. There is no breakfast in the morning but the shop is very close by so for one night stay it was not a problem. There is also some restaurants and bars in the neighborhood.

First of all, this is not a hotel. The reception closes at 11, the rooms are only cleaned once every three days, there is no bar or minibar. Second of all, it is in a relatively bad neighbourhood. And there aren't a lot of restaurants around, and no bars. Third of all, the wifi is a joke. Loading webmail takes at least a few minutes, sending an email even longer. Plus, the wifi drops out all the time. If you are abroad a lot like me, and would like to call people via skype or facetime in the evening over wifi, forget about it. It will not happen. Worst of all, I have stayed here a few weeks, and have not even been offered something in return for their horrible wifi service, although I complained numerous times about it. On the plus side, it is quite cheap. Then again, its not a hotel. And it's clean, but the quality of the beds is average. For business travellers, splash out the extra 50 CHF a night for a decent hotel and get the service you expect.

I have spent more that 1 year in Geneva for work. I was looking for a place that would be clean, convenient, functional and that I would not get visually bored of.That's exactly what I found at the Starling.

Starling residence is a residence hotel located within walking distance of downtown Geneva. If you feel lazy, you can still take the Tram that stops right in front of the residence and takes you to the center very quickly. You will be given a free pass to use public transportation when you check-in. Many of the best restaurants of Geneva are close to the hotel (Le Bistroquet(best beef tartare!), L'Olivier de Provence, le Vieux Carouge (best fondues!), la Maison Rouge, etc)

Rooms are very functional. I stayed in one of the "Superior Room" (might be called slightly differently), which is made of :
- A small kitchen
- A bathroom with a shower
- An office corner with a desk and a chair
- A living room with couch, table and 30'' TV (there are HDMI plugs if you want to plug your laptop)
- A bedroom with a kit size bed that is very comfortable (The hotel has many types of pillows if you have specific requirements)

If you can, ask for one of the highest floors as you will have a nice view on the mountains when you wake up.

The very top floor holds a few exclusive rooms that are slightly more expensive, but you will get a Terrace and a nice view as well. Definitely a good pick if you come between May and September!

In Summary, great place to stay in!

The only thing I want to point out as a necessary improvement is the Wifi connection. The hotel has a free Wifi connection for its customers which works great in general, but there is a bandwidth issue (slowness) which can become annoying at rush hours (i.e from to 5pm to 11pm).

The residence also provides dry cleaning services which is very convenient when you plan on staying for a while.

For 1 year, I have seen a staff team that was always keen on satisfying my needs. I want to thank Quentin, Pauline, and Amanda that were particularly thoughtful. Many thanks also to Mr Rey that manages the place with boundless enthusiasm.

Don't hesitate, choose the Starling!

Nicolas TM.

It was indeed a nice apartment. But It was our worst stay in Switzerland.
It is location outside the town centre, near a university but at night it is not a safe place.
Our car window was smashed and some of our belonging was stolen.
It leaves us an impression that such a safe country can be not safe in some location.
If you are driving think twice before booking this hotel, dun leave anything in the car & buy car or rental insurance.

Probably the most reasonably priced hotel residence in town - very clean and decent sized rooms. Fine for business travelers - but location is not ideal if you're a tourist. Hardly any restaurants nearby although the tram 15 stop is across the street and will take you into the centre.
