Owner description: CERN, in Geneva, is the world’s largest particle physics research centre. CERN has recently brought into service the world’s most powerful accelerator, the LHC (Large Hadron Collider), which will provide new insights into the Universe and how it evolved. The entire Universe is made up of particles. But where do they come from? What laws govern their behaviour? The purpose of the "Universe of particles" exhibition is for visitors to confront the great questions of contemporary physics : a journey to the Big Bang.

Its the epitome of research centre for physics....a must visit for all Science Lovers and physicists...I had wanted to visit it so desperately. ..and Geneva reminded of CERN...always...I had a wonderful visit of 3 and half hours and the guides were suprrb....but plzz prebook ur visit on the internet...there is a direct tram going to CERN from cornavin station. Tram no.18 and it has CERN written over it...takes 40 mins approximately to reach...

CERN should have been granted the Nobel Prize for Physics in 2013 given the fundamental role it played in the search for the Higgs bosone

Usually, only the visitors' centre is open to the public, but it is well worth it - Very nicely done. Once a year or so, CERN has "open days", with lots of exhibits and lots of scientists eager to explain things to you.

A trip to the origin of the universe. The effort of the human being to search to the infinitely small, close to the Big Bang and closer and closer to the unknown !!!

The whole Genéve is turning around CERN. CERN is the reason that many villages like Prevessin, Meyrin and Saint Genis became towns. There are 10 000 people working at CERN, most not all the time. What you should know about this place is, that CERN is not all about LHC, there is a lot of other cool experiments, some under, some on the ground, for example ISOLDE, COMPASS, CLIC... You should surely e-mail people and see if there is a chance of visiting some of them if you decide to go there, CERN's policy to general public is very open so I am sure that if there are no safety risks, you can visit anything. Also, CERN is not only Meyrin site(the complex with the reception), but also Prevessin site, which are approx. the same size and are 3,5km from each other. You need some guide to get you through the gate(no access without access card), but nothing that can't be arranged if you mail the visitor center.
