Stayed here for 7 nights on business. Cannot beat the location - right next to Gare Cornavin (Geneva's main train station) and bus and tram stops.
Rooms are tiny. My "standard single room" was on the 4th floor, overlooking the train station. I could not be any closer to the train station without being in it, or so it seemed! I tried to get a room away from the train station, after reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor, but the receptionist was not willing to budge. Got the impression that he had rooms available, but was not willing to part with them. Despite their Lilliputian size, room and bathroom were OK. Clean towels daily, linens changed everyday. Walls are indeed paper-thin and I could hear muffled conversation from other rooms and TV noise percolating through the walls.
The much-feared "train noise kept me up all night" that other reviewers complained about, never materialized for me. I think I'm too heavy a sleeper to be bothered by the sound of train brakes squealing. Could hear them fine when I was awake, during the evenings though.
I was charged CHF 18 extra for breakfast. Was it worth it? Not sure. Was it convenient? Yes. No hot items on the buffet, just boiled eggs and the ability to custom boil eggs. Good selection of cheeses and cold cuts, cereal and breads and croissants. The yogurt cups were not chilled over ice, as I would have expected, but left in baskets. So depending on when you came down for breakfast, you got cold yogurt (at the intended temperature) or room temperature yogurt. Oh well.
Dinner was OK, about par for overpriced Geneva restaurants. The fixed price hotel guest menu (CHF 29, appetizer-main-coffee/tea) was a comparative bargain and had just enough variety to make want to eat there more than once. Food quality was very good.
Not sure if it was ignorance or apathy or an elitist attitude on the part of the receptionist, but he was no help whatsoever in recommending public transportation options to the Place de Nations and CICG conference center. He insisted that Bus #5 was the only option to get to my destination and pointed me to a bus stop way up the road as the closest one. Reality? Walk through the station next door and you come out to the main tram and bus terminus where you have a plethora of options to get you to Place de Nations or CICG, every 5 minutes!!! Was he new to Geneva or just clueless? Quite disappointing. He did give me the free public transportation card (that all Geneva hotels do) which I put to good use.
All in all, great location, OK accommodations and typically over-priced - as are most Geneva hotels. The location alone would prompt me to stay there again.
