This hotel is ideal if you are looking for a good location in Geneva. Rooms are quite small but comfortable and clean. There are no tea/coffee facilities but you can buy your own supplies and use the shared kitchen. Kitchen can be used to cook meals if you are on a budget.
Staff friendly and will answer questions whenever asked. I was annoyed that I wasn't given a map of the city when I arrived! Although I was able to get then when I asked for it on the second day.
There was plenty of choice in the breakfast and the staff were very helpful in the dining area.
You will get good value for what you pay here.

Stayed in Bel Esperance for a business trip. The rooms were decent and the staff was friendly. Breakfast is run of the mill but considering the price it was good value for money. There's a common place to cook and store food. It was right smack in the old town, but a bit far from Place des Nations and Gare Cornavin. However, given Geneva's ultra-efficient public transport system this was almost negligible.

We spent 5 days, in October, here and were quite comfortable. The room was simple and comfortable with a great bed, small desk, tiny but functional shower, 2 balconies (too high up for me to use). WiFi worked well. When the room lights were first turned on, they were very dim but quickly brightened up sufficiently. Towels, etc. were great for us. Very clean and quiet room on the fifth floor. Plus, you can use the kitchen with keyed refrigerator compartments for your own food and with all that you need to cook and eat meals (free), plus laundry facilities (not free and time consuming but in the hotel), and even a small library for borrowing books, in several languages. Snacks and soda are available from the ground level machine and from the front desk. Breakfast was excellent for us--breads and croissants and rolls, meats and cheeses and hard-boiled eggs, 3 different juices and milk and tea and the coffee machine, cereals, jams, and daily surprises, and breakfast is FREE (part of room rate). In the sitting area near the front desk, there is a piano, newspapers, and a computer. The front desk staff is great--multi-lingual and full of information. I needed to see a dentist and they connected me with an excellent dentist just a couple blocks from the hotel. The location is perfect for seeing the Old City, shopping on the Rue de Rive, walking along the lake shore, and enjoying a variety of restaurants within walking distance. When you check in, you are given bus passes for the length of your stay, so with several bus stops within two blocks of the hotel, you can travel for free to anywhere in Geneva. The whole experience was very relaxing and enjoyable.

Room Tip: Some rooms face an inner court yard and may be quieter in the summer time. We had no problem with n...

We were on a short family break. The location is excellent, being in the old town made the main tourist attractions easy to reach on foot. The trams/bus are free and only two streets away ( the number 10 tram takes you all the way back to the airport).
The united nations is worth visiting.Take the number 15 tram. You will need photo I.D with you to do the tour.
Our family room was more like a mini apartment with two separate bedrooms and a bathroom. Breakfast was made up of juice, hot drinks, cereal, eggs, cheese etc- so plenty of food to choose from The kitchen at the hotel and the use of the free fridge was useful for making up light lunches. Our rooms were warm, very clean and the staff friendly.
The square is just up the hill and the chez ma cousine (I think this is the name !) is on the right. It sells good inexpensive chicken meals.

The Bel'Esperance claims two stars (Swiss) and that is probably about right for this hotel created by the Salvation Army to put up the Salvation Army lassies voluneering for the cause. On the other hand, it is clean, the breakfast is OK, and it is in a terrific location in the old town part of the city, so it is easy to walk to many of the old town attractions, and the Gran Theatre is within walkable distance as well. The rooms are adequate, and we spent three nights there perfectly happily, considering. It is significantly cheaper than other hotels in Geneva. The staff speaks decent English, in addition to other languages, So it is a good choice if you are travelling on a budget for a very expensive city.

I was in Geneva to visit colleagues at the University. They put me up here and apologized for the overall low quality of inexpensive hotels in the city (or I guess you could say the extreme cost of good ones). This was far from the worst place I've stayed in, it was clean and basically comfortable, but it felt very minimal - the room was a bit stark, few amenities, towels were very thin and not absorbent. The location is quite good and the desk staff were very helpful, and spoke good English. Breakfast was not elaborate but fairly good with hardboiled eggs, yogurt, croissants, sliced meats and cheese, and several juices. I appreciated the coffee machine that let you make your own fresh cappuccino/latte/espresso, given the lack of amenities in the room I was expecting less.

As a base for business or visiting family this hotel is ideal. Rooms may be compact but comfortable and clean. Only thing missing is tea/coffee facilities but as reception can get you tea/coffee/hot chocolate from the machine or you can buy your own provisions and use the shared kitchen this is not a problem.
Kitchen can be used to cook meals, make picnics etc but also plenty of restaurants nearby.
If you like chicken try Chez Ma Cousine 3 mins walk up the hill. Tasty and well priced with wonderful desserts.
After doing a tour of United Nations building we stumbled across Vieux-Bois Cookery School restaurant next door to the UN exit. Although we were extremely caually dressed they found us a table next to some 'suits' and we were served a wonderful 5 course meal (you could have less if you wanted) for the price of 2 courses in central town.
Staff friendly and helpful whenever we needed help.
Have seen on here some adverse comments about breakfasts but with the selection of meats, cheese, yogurts, cereals, bread and rolls we could not complain as I have had less in more expensive Geneva hotels I have stayed in previously. They were even happy to have my son (who lives in Geneva) join us for breakfast for a very reasonable charge.
My husband and I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel and look forward to visiting again in the New Year.
