Cornavin Hotel Geneva
Ranked #38 of 109 Hotels in Geneva
Reviewed November 30, 2010

On the plus side the Hotel Cornavin in directly adjacent to the main railway station in Geneva and its rooms, whilst not large and very basically furnished, are clean with comfortable beds.

On the down side the hotel has a breakfast room, but no restaurant and there is no bar, but drinks can be had in the lobby. It is quite outrageously expensive for what it is .... but that is far more a comment about Geneva and Switzerland "in the round" than about the Hotel Cornavin. Comparatively, the hotel is not overpriced ie many, perhaps most, of the other hotels nearby are even more expensive; some considerably so.

The hotel is rated 4 star. It is, in reality, closely comparable to the average Premier Inn in UK.

To give readers an idea of prices in Geneva, a hot chocolate in Starbucks is CHF 6.95; a three litre flagon of beer in a local bar is CHF 48.50; a very simple pizza snack for four, with one soft drink each, was CHF 145 before a service charge was added.

.......is how I would describe this hotel. There seem to be a few comments about rude staff, but this was not my experience. This was a perectly acceptable hotel; very convenient for access to transport. I wouldn't go there for a romantic weekend, but it is fine as a business hotel.

Although the rooms were clean and quiet, and the location next to the train station was nice, this did not make up for a front desk staff that was unwelcoming and almost hostile. Not one person ever smiled or made even a pretense of being anyhing other than, at best, coldly cordial; most often they seemed simply annoyed by guests. I realize that not all cultures set the same value on smiling as Americans generally do, but some attempt at pleasantness in a hotel serving an international clientele doesn't seem like such a bad idea. I would never stay there again.

nice hotel, perfect location, almost in the central rail station. Not too noisy despite proximity of trains and roads. Prices for hotel rooms change everyday depending on occupation. You might have to pay up to 450 francs depending on the day. You might also get a room for as little as 130 francs... at 450 francs, the room is not worth the price... at 130 francs it is a great bargain. Good luck for booking.

Compared to most of the run-down local hotels near the train station, Hotel Cornavin was better than most in this price range. It was relatively spacious, the bed was comfortable, furnishings modern, and a nice bathroom.

However, note this is not a 5-star hotel, so the services levels are just 'ok.' There is a small gym in the basement (unusual for Geneva) and the rooms that the lake have a beautiful view. However, half the rooms face the train tracks (directly above them) - so if you are sensitive to noise, this can be problematic. But sure to request a room that does not face the tracks if you need quiet.

Internet cost 20CHF per week, which was a good deal compared to other hotels. One night it went out, however, and the night staff could not fix it.

I travel to Geneva a lot for work and I would definitely stay here again.

We traveled to Geneva visiting CERN in June 2010 with a group of students and parents.
The hotel is located in a great position! Situated on the train station Gare de Cornavin, 5 minutes away walk the Lac Leman. 2 minutes walk the fantastic MANOR where you can buy everything in great prices-Geneva is very expensive. Opposite is Starrbucks, Mc Donalds, Kebab, cafes etc..

The rooms are very confortable, fully renovated, clean. Beds confortable. WiFi under request for 20 CHF/week. Bathroom water pressure very good, nice views from the hotel room with no noise from outside at all.

Staff NOT polite, especially the old man in the reception. Maids and other staff very noisy in the breakfast room (8th floor with fantastic panoramic views). They don't seem to have any respect for the tourists in their area.

Breakfast is basic but it is free: cereals, breads, croissants, crackers, swiss cheeses, boiled eggs, nutella, marmalades, french coffee and juices.

If you don't mind to see inpolite staff then the hotel is recommended due its fantastic position and confortable rooms. Also, the hotel does NOT have a restaurant.
