“Good location but not really 4 star”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 14, 2013

My daughter stayed here on business with one of her team and I joined her for a mini-family get together after Christmas. The location is great with public transport on hand just outside the entrance and a free visitors ticket each.

The public spaces are very restricted to a tiny ground floor bar/servery smaller than our kitchen and some comfortable but rather overwhelming sofas set out in rows. The breakfast floor is quite something being a big steel and glass affair on the 8th floor overlooking much of central Geneva and away to distant mountains and hills.

There are no other ground floor spaces that we could discover though there are fitness facilities.

The breakfast was okay but exceedingly predictable with tiny amounts of cold meats and hard boiled eggs laid by dwarf chickens. One grade of milk and three cereal types plus pumpkin seeds etc. Very limited bread and roll choices for a European hotel but the waiter-provided coffee was okay. There were some apples and bananas as well.

Rooms: we discovered when I helped my daughter pack her things away, that her business booking room on the 4th floor was only about half the area of my add-on room booking on the 3rd. Hers was like a ship's cabin, not small as such but with absolutely no room to spare whereas mine was a long walk from the bed to the kettle

Usual high prices for minibar goods best left alone. Stylish kettle but unimaginative minimalist selection of 2 tea bags (not even the one I used was replaced the next day) and those cardboard stick tubes of bitter coffee.

Several sharp right angled edges near the bath which doubles as a shower. Plus glass doors and panels set on edge to your direction of entry/exit to the bathroom/toilet I always find a bit scary as I tend to walk into things I cannot see because of no colour contrast. Basic, not lavish soap/shampoo provision.

Sunday morning lie -in was spoilt by incredibly noisy cleaning staff in the next room and the corridor. No need for an alarm. I got up to track the source and they must have both been deaf as they were shouting at one another while standing less thn four feet apart.

A curious and very tall pendulum clock hangs in a void opposite the three glass-walled lifts: about eight floors high, it is supposed to be in the Guiness Book of Records but it was about eight hours adrift on our idea of the right time.

I didn't like the one-way only fire exit route: no staircase at the opposite end of the corridor to the main exit staircase.

Room Tip: Either facing the main square side or the railway station, double glazing seems to work equally well...

We stayed at the hotel in June 2012 and whilst I had reservations about staying at the hotel due to its close proximity to the railway station I was pleasantly surprised.

The hotel is just across the road from the main shopping area and is within walking distance to Lake Geneva. The free transit passes for trams and buses was a bonus, as was the free Wi-Fi in our room. Access to pcs and printer in the lobby came in very handy when needing to print tickets off.

Our room was clean and spacious. Breakfast, which was not included in the price, was very basic. The reception staff were friendly and efficient and always willing to assist you with your queries.

Given that hotels in Geneva are extremely expensive the hotel room was good value.

This hotel is right next to the station - less than 2minutes walk. Trams and buses are outside the station. You are only about a 10minute walk, through the mall, from Lake Geneva and to the beautiful views across the lake to the mountains. The hotel itself is clean and tidy and the staff friendly and helpful. The rooms are stylish, comfortable and spacious. I would gladly return to this hotel.

Right next to the Geneva station, this modern 10 storey hotel is comfortable and surprisingly quiet considering it has railway lines behind and buses/trams and other traffic in front. Rooms fairly spacious and very comfortable bed. Our room smelled of cleaning chemicals the whole time and also smelled a bit damp so we were forever opening the huge windows and also heating the bathroom with the hairdryer!

No heated towel rails is a real annoyance if you like such things (I do!) but otherwise a good place to lay your head.

Breakfast is only continental, no bacon/eggs or other cooked apart from boiled eggs. However the choice is ok and you can fill yourself on fruit, the aforementioned boiled eggs, cereal, meats and cheeses, a large selection of breads and truly delicious buttery croissants and juices and coffee. Tea is a real disappointment...my partner got a pot with only one teabag and another pot of hot water which was a waste as it was already really weak! The second morning we went to the restaurant in the local Manor department store (open from 9am), which was much much better...

There is a small gym in the basement and a tiny sauna with shower area, not bad but crowded if more than 2 people!

Room Tip: Ask for top floor and street side instead of railway side...we had 911 or 912 each time

Asked for a quiet room and was given a room on the 9th floor - practically on my own, so not disturbed by other peoples coming and going. Unfortunately your choices of room will either be to overlook the railway station or main street - so quiet rooms are few & far between.

Room was clean, had enough room - weirdly a bottle opener right next to the WC - but otherwise OK.

Breakfast not included in the room rate. Served on the 8th floor, which means a good view over the city (unless cloudy which it was when l stayed) and costs additional 18CHF per person.

Staff were OK, friendly enough.

Overall nothing special and apart from the noise (but l am a really light sleeper) it's an OK hotel.

Room Tip: All rooms seemed OK, but none will be 'quiet'

The hotel Cornavin is Ideal if you are going to visit any of the Shows at the exhibition Centre. You have 5 minute train ride from the Exhibition Centre/Airport down to Geneva. you walk out the station and the Hotel is over the road on your right. I have stayed here twice while visiting the Geneva motor show. The breakfast room is on the top level and has a good views over Geneva. The lake is about a ten minute walk down hill. Their is a selection of restaurants around the hotel, Being Geneva everything is expensive!
The staff are helpfull and friendly.

Room Tip: If you plan to go to Geneva book early as the Hotel seems to be very popular.
