The Hotel Cristal is a nice affordable alternative to many of the other hotels near Cornavin. Less than a 10 minute walk from the station. Hotel is clean and very modern. Best of all, the room is very quiet, a nice surprise given the bustle of the neighborhood near the train station.

The rooms are a bit spartan -- white walls, no pictures -- very minimalist. But overall, a good hotel in a very convenient location.

We had a small, but comfortable room. There was room for the double bed (two twin mattresses pushed together) and a decent-sized bathroom. The decor is a bit odd - lots of semi-opaque plastic. Someone clearly spent a lot of money designing this hotel and acquiring vast amounts of custom-cut plastic parts. But it still looks a bit cheap and I suspect it won't age well. The plastic bathroom walls make bathroom privacy difficult.

The room was fairly quiet, except we were directly under the breakfast room. We had to wake up early for a morning flight, so it wasn't a big deal, but there was a constant scraping of chairs on the breakfast-room floors over our heads from 7:00 onward. Since the hotel wasn't terribly crowded, I wondered why rooms directly under the breakfast room would be assigned. Staff members spoke English well, but were a bit disinterested and aloof. The small cleaning staff often chattered noisily in common areas and were a bit surly.

This is in a noisy area of Geneva, very close to the train station. It's in a good location, but we were there on a Saturday night, and sleep was a bit difficult with the constant thumping of car stereos. Probably nothing the hotel could do about this.

Because of the location and price, I'd consider this hotel again, but I don't feel any particular affection for it.

Room Tip: Probably the higher the better, but avoid the 7th-floor rooms under the breakfast room if you want t...

After staying in a cheap spot on the other side of the river I decided to move to a hotel close to the station rather than a hotel airport, as the train journey takes less than 10 minutes from the city to the airport.
After shopping around I found a room at the hotel at a price that was £40 cheaper than other quotes for a double room. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised at the hotel. It is ultra modern, extremely clean and comfortable - I lay down to watch TV and woke up 3 hours later (one of the most comfortable beds I’ve ever had in a hotel.)
I found the internet connection was great and there was a fabulous shower which was enormous.
The hotel has lots of good value lovely restaurants nearby and is next to a pedestrianised area /square where you can while away a few hours people watching. It is also a short walk from the lake shore and close to the tram (which the hotel will give you a travel card for) which will take you to the other side of the city where you can explore the old town and shopping district.
This hotel would suit most, but is not really the kind of place to bring children. As I stayed on a weeknight the hotel had quite a few business people staying, as well as a few young couples, and the odd solo traveller like myself.
This is a much better option than the airport hotels, and shop around for a the best price.

Room Tip: Try a few price comparison websites for a good deal.

The cost of a hotel room in Geneva is truly ridiculous! However this hotel was a great find. The rooms are a bit small but most large city hotel rooms can be (New York, Paris, etc). The design is very modern and clean, we really enjoyed how stylish it felt. The staff was very kind and accomodating and the price (compared to other hotels there) was a bargain. The location is perfect as it is a block from the train station and parking garage. It also is next to a starbucks, half a block from a fun little English Pub and only a few blocks from a large department store (with a terrific cafe on the top floor... try the sandwiches made from pretzel bread, DELISH) Apparently the hotel used to be quite the dive and then went under a complete renovation... I imagine it's only a matter of time until this hotel becomes quite popular. wait, maybe we should be writing bad reviews so we can keep it to ourselves :-)

I wanted a cheapish hotel in a convenient and safe location because I was visiting Geneva on my own - and couldn't have chosen better. I was amazed to find such a high standard of accommodation at such a reasonable price in such an expensive city. he Hotel Cristal is perfectly located literally three minutes walk from trains, trams and buses, and ten minutes walk from the Lake. There's a Starbucks next door and plenty of cafes and restaurants around. A couple of people on Tripadvisor have mentioned that it's near the unofficial red light district, but please don't let this put you off. It is also near four and five star hotels such as the Kempinski, and is really not a problem. The area is very busy during the day and evening and I never felt remotely intimidated, even on my own. The staff are professional and helpful, and the rooms are clean, modern, compact and cleverly-designed so they contain everything you need. Breakfast is in a bright and airy room on the top floor and you can look out over the rooftops as you help yourself to cereals, fruit, cheese, yogurt, bread and coffee. The Cristal isn't the sort of hotel you'd book for a romantic weekend, but it doesn't charge enough to offer the luxury you'd want for that. All-in-all for velue for money and location I give it five out of five.
