I have stayed at hundreds of hotels and B&Bs in my life, and the Hotel Aida in Geneva is the worst of them all. The manager is a very mean man who treats Americans like dirt. There were also pubic hairs in the bathroom near the drain and the bathroom smelled of urine (and the hallway reeked of cigarettes). We were also lied to about the price and treated in a hostile manner upon arriving and mentioning the price quoted on the phone. When we walked through the stinky hallway to our room, my partner and I both felt like crying.

It was with some trepidation that we booked a room here, having read a couple of reviews, albeit a few years old. Having left things until very late, there was no real choice if we wanted a room at a reasonable price, so we decided to take the risk - and were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was well-placed for the old city, the manager was extremely helpful, the room had an en suite, which was virtually as big as the room itself, and there was was a television on which we could pick up a couple of English-speaking channels. For 155 Swiss francs for the night, it might not have been unreasonable to have expected breakfast, but we were grateful to be allowed to leave our cases in the reception office for day after checking out. We booked directly with the hotel by email, and I suspect that there might have been room for negotiation on the price. We were broadly satisfied with what we booked, given the price of other hotels in the city. The negatives were that the walls were very thin, so we were able to hear someone clumping about in the neighbouring room for a while, and we would have preferred a cotton sheet rather that what felt like winciette. The room was very dated, but I suppose that you get what you pay for.

Staying at Hotel Aida was a nice experience. The staff was really friendly and they offered us a bottle of wine (!!!) upon our arrival. Prices are really good and we didnt expect luxurious accomodation but a clean and tiny room to stay. The location is really good and there is connection to all points of interest.

Room tip: Prendre un hôtel plus cher un peu plus loin vers le jardin anglais.
