From the moment you walk into this stylishly decorated basement bar near the old town hall in Thun you are struck by the subtle class of the place. The area around the bar itself is simple yet impressive with a very wide array of spirits and liqueurs racked along hte back wall. Upstairs from the bar is a more relaxed seating area and a room at the back with a pool table give great options depending on what sort of evening you want to have . . . and this is all before you meet the bar staff.
All three staff are fluent in English and German, but French, Spanish and Italian are also catered for. They are incredibly knowledgable about cocktails, knowing where and when they were created, and their recommendations are unbeatable - just tell them what you're in the mood for and you will be thrilled every time.
Finally, leaving the best to last, the drinks. From Martinis to Negronis, Daiquiris to Mojoitos, Atelier manages to hit perfection every time. But, in my opinion, where they really excel is in their own creations. The Borderline Old Fashioned and the Rum Diary are two of my favourites but there are many more that demand a try.
Honestly, if you're a fan of high quality cocktails and find yourself in Switzerland then it's worth coming to Thun just so you can visit Atelier.
