Lake Thun is one of two lakes that sit along Interlaken. Thun is at the far end of the lake from Interlaken. We took the train from Interlaken over to Thun. The boat cruises on the lake leave from right next to the train station. You can get the boat schedules online. You can do a round trip which takes many hours or a one-way which took about 2 hours. The boat has food and restrooms plus an very nice indoor eating area where we stayed since it was raining. There are several castles along the shores of Lake Thun, and you can get off the boat to see them, then catch the next boat. There also seemed to be various water activities available, but we didn't do any of these. We did see sailboats on the lake. The views along the lake are absolutely gorgeous - lots of little small towns and very beautiful houses.

This lake can be enjoyed riding, walking, running, swimming, hiking on the hills or just enjoying a good cake with view to the Jungfrau area. I recommend considering the hills opposite the Jungfrau: you'll see both the lake and the mountains.

Arriving late in Interlaken because of flight delays we wanted to relax on our first full day and took up a suggestion of a trip on Lake Thun (Thunersee). It proved excellent, just what we needed! It takes just over 2 hours each way on the ferry from Interlaken West to Thun with several stops on the way. A peaceful lake with attractive scenery and charming little villages at which the ferry stopped. A number of old castles near the shore line. We chose second class which was fine, plenty of room inside and out so could not see the point of using the more expensive first class saloon on topdeck. We used our travel pass to reduce the fare. Catering on the ferry is OK. We stayed a while in the old town of Thun before returning - it happened to be a Saturday which was market day and we spent some time happily browsing through it. Thun market is extensive on the Saturday but less so on the other market day in the week. At the end of the holiday we did the two way ferry trip again and enjoyed the relaxation once more before setting off early the following day,for home.

Thunersee is quite spectacular, surrounded by mountain tops, with the medeival city of Thun at one end and Intleraken at the other. Take a drive along the north shore for breathtaking views of the Jungfrau.
