Stayed at Krone for 1 and a half weeks. The location was superb in the middle of old town. The breakfast was standard and not a lot of different things. So with a quite long stay it got a little boring. The coffee is excellent though as always in Switzerland. I tried the Chinese restaurant once and it was quite okay.

The front staff were always helpful and nice. The WiFi was included, which should be the case today in every hotel.

My room was 101, which is in the first floor facing the river. This means that it was closest to the walking street. The windows where very thin and lady's high heels on Cobblestone street very quite easy to hear. Luckily Thun is quite small town, so not a lot people partying and walking trunk back home (at least on October).

Room was quite spacious and clean. Nice big bathroom at least in my room. A bit poor lighting in the room, I think they planned that people keep the curtains open, but when on the first floor and view from the walking street, so did not do that.

Overall experience very positive.

We stayed at the Hotel Krone in Thun the last weekend of July 2012 after a Wedding-Anniversary party. The hotel is located in the historic pedestrian area in the center of Thun and most shops and sights (Thun castle etc.) are within close walking distance. We were welcomed very friendly at the front desk and our rooms were quite modern and furnished nicely. We booked a double standard room and a double deluxe room, but be aware, that the hotel also offers quite small standard double rooms with only one "Grandlit" (bed 1 meter 40 wide), which I consider too narrow for two adults (except perhaps if you are on your honeymoon...). In my opinion, The higher price for a King or two single beds is well invested! What we found to be quite a bit bothering, was the fact, that the windows were well sound proof if shot, but on a hot summer night, they had to be left open, because there was no air conditioning in the rooms, which I think could be expected for the price you pay. As mentioned in other reviews, there are a lot of pedestrians coming and going to the bars and pubs around the old town till early in the morning, making quite some noise. And what was disturbing even more, was the street cleaning machine rumbling over the square directly in front of the hotel shortly after 8 o`clock in the morning, making it impossible to sleep in after a party night. And that was on a Sunday! But over all, our stay was quite pleasant, the breakfast buffet was rich and delicious and therefore, we probably will consider to book the hotel again for our next stay in Thun.

We stayed here in the Christmas season and it was just amazing. The hotel was wonderful, clean, professional and had that quaint feeling of being in a lovely Swiss postcard scene....snow, bells, reign deer, hot chocolate and gingerbread.....just magical. I would recommend this hotel and this town to anyone!!!!

...and, believe me, we can sleep ANYWHERE, usually....that's unless hords of drunken people shout all night outside the room since there are many bars around the hotel and the new non-smoking legislation means smoker have to smoke outside....room size is actually decent but they are very dimmly lit, the pillows smelled awful, the bathroom was filthy, breakfast buffet is at best average and parking is a problem. Having said this, the location, right at the center of the old town is excellent and if you don't mind the noise, it's still a much better choice than staying at a hostel or a campsite. Ask for a room on the top floor as they are a tick less noisy and get some more daylight.

This hotel is in an excellent position in the middle of the beautiful old town of Thun overlooking the town square. The rooms are comfortable though I felt a hotel of this class (4 star) should have soft chairs to watch TV rather than the two hard upright chairs provided.
Breakfast was a very good buffet and the meal in the Swiss restaurant tasty and filling if not inspiring. There are two other restaurants - Chinese and French - which we did not try.
The big disadvantage for us was the excesive noise late into the night made by revellers returning home in the street below. To be fair we were staying at the weekend and at the time Of the Thun Festival, but our experience would make us think very hard before booking again

Stayed two nights whilst touring by car. We were allocated a corner room with views both of the river and the Rathaus Square. There was a fete in the town over the weekend and consequently a lot of noise and jollity which died down about 10pm so did not disturb our sleep. The room was very pleasant, looking recently renovated in a modern style with a good bathroom. The hotel has underground parking for a few cars at a cost of 10 swiss francs per night, with lift access from the corridors.
We dined one night in their Chinese Restaurant and although the food was excellent the place was woefully understaffed with ONE harrassed waiter trying to serve everybody with food and drink. The second night we had dinner in the gourmet restaurant which was much quieter and here again the food was very good. There was an interesting buffet breakfast with plenty of choice. Nice young manager who spoke good English. We were able to explore the interesting old town from the door of the hotel.

My husband and I spent two nights at Hotel Krone in Thun, Switzerland on our way back to Germany from Italy. I was initially impressed by the hotel's charming exterior, right next to the city hall. However, actually getting to the hotel and unloading our bags was a bit of a problem because, at first, we thought the area around the hotel was closed to traffic. The hotel has a few parking spots in back as well as a tiny parking garage. Thankfully, there was space for our small SUV, but it was a tight squeeze getting it in there. We also had to move the car and parking in the public garage the second night because the garage was scheduled to be cleaned early the next morning. Luckily, the public garage is within walking distance.

The room was basically nice and quite spacious. We were pleased with the bed and the comfortable duvets. However, I was a little put off by the empty, obviously used bottle of Thun water in our room. There was a note next to it in German that implied the bottle was supposed to be filled with Thun water, which we could drink and, perhaps, take home with us for the princely sum of 18 Swiss francs.

The bathroom was clean and came equipped with a shower, as well as an obviously used votive candle sitting in a holder behind the toilet. Speaking of the toilet, we had some trouble flushing it a couple of times.

Hotel Krone has wireless Internet access that can be accessed by the hour or day. Four hours cost 19 Swiss francs, while 24 hours cost 30 francs. There's also a television with a generous selection of channels and a minibar.

We sat out on the terrace and tried the hotel's Chinese food the first night. Menus are available in English and German, which is a good thing, because Hotel Krone has several different cuisines available. Our meals were quite good and the service was decent, until we asked for dessert. I asked for creme brulee and was brought what appeared to be melted caramel ice cream with a dollop of whip cream on top and a cookie. When we asked if that was supposed to be creme brulee, the waitress said it was. I don't know if she was lying or had simply never seen creme brulee before, but it sure didn't look like any creme brulee I've ever had. Oh well.

I will comment that the breakfast was excellent, with a wide variety of breads, meats, jams, fruits, cereals and juices offered, as well as hard boiled eggs. The coffee was very good and the service at breakfast was excellent. We also have no complaints about the front desk.

This hotel is probably best for train or bus travelers because parking is so limited. Still, it's near the lake and convenient to the downtown area. It's also not as expensive as some of the other hotels we were considering. I'd probably stay there again, but I'd steer clear of the creme brulee.
