“cool old town”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2014

From the giant clock with its hammer striking man, to wandering the streets old town is where its at. Einstein kept an apartment here which is now a museum (as much of a museum as you can fit in an apartment) easy walk to bear pits. Plenty of shopping and eating, stay in the hotels there and you are close to everything. Short distance from train station as well.

“Easy to walk around and beautiful!!”

Great old city area to walk around.,...you can't get lost...just enjoy. Walk the beautiful main street towards the bears. We loved walking around without a map and just exploring!

“Historic and beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2014

We stayed in an apartment in the old town so everything was outside our door. There are cobbled streets lined with shops, restaurants, bars and interesting statues, water fountains and of course the amazing clocks. On Saturdays there is a wonderful market selling cheeses, meats, wines, vegetables and flowers, do not miss the market if you are there on a Saturday. You can get an iPod walking tour from the information centre if you wish. The buildings are beautiful with many interesting rooflines and unusual windows. Take your time, walk slowly and absorb the history.

“If you want to see classic Switzerland, don't miss this...”

Loved the food, the old town feel and the sights. The bear garden and river are amazing. There is nothing I did not like about Bern.

“Charming!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 5, 2014 via mobile

We walked from the rose garden on the hill, down to the bear enclosure, then across the bridge into the Old Town. I'd definitely recommend seeing both. We continued to meander thru the various streets to find fun shops in the various arcades. Definitely take in any overlooks, peek into the cathedral, see the clock tower, and peer into the basement vaulted dining room of the old granary/kornhaus. Northward towards the train station becomes a little less charming, but do walk over to the parliament building, where there are pretty views over the river. And if you want to have a beautiful afternoon view of the Old Town, go back to the bear park enclosure & have a drink or a coffee at their cafe.
