“So many shops”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

There are so many small shops in the Old Town of Bern, and they sell everything...Lots of quaint little eatery's as well..you could very easily spend a whole day just in The Old Town.

“Take a bit of your time ... and let the atmosphere sink in”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The Old Town of Berne is worth a visit any time, even in autumn or winter.
Especially the lower part, towards the bear park, has some wonderful little shops, bars and restaurants. The upper part, towards the train station, is more representing the usual shops (from H&M, PKZ, to Coop & Migros).
You just need to take a bit of time and explore the smaller and quietter parts, especially of the lower part. Take a coffee somewhere, watch the people, locals and tourists alike and shop for a few items in the cozy little shops.
Even by rain it is an easy stroll, as you can walk under the cover of the houses (arcades or "Lauben").
Now, reserve that time and go and have a look around.

“A walk through the Middle Ages”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

This is an unusually well-preserved and scenic area, which is easy to navigate. Whether you like medieval architecture, whimsical statues and fountains, or want to visit the Munster (cathedral), or shop at the Thursday outdoor market, there's something here for everyone. Many of the streets offer covered arcades, which is nice if it's raining. Several shops, especially candy shops and bakeries, have windows in which the goods are displayed in artistic, creative ways. I found the whole area delightful!

“great arcades”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

It is a walk back in time as you travel up and down the arcade lined streets. The vast array of shops with everything imaginable for sale is a flash back to the days before the indoor shopping mall. The old cobble stone streets are a bit rough on the feet, so good pair of walking shoes are a must. One way to take a load off is to sit down and enjoy 'ein bier' at one the outdoor restaurants and people watch.
