The barengraben is a fenced in area next to a tram stop and across the bridge from the Olde Town. It's a good spot for people who want to see brown bears at a close but safe distance in a fairly small area, but on two separate visits I have to say that I felt bad for the bears. Their area is surrounded by a wall where people can look down on them and take pictures. The bears have a small pond and some climbing stones and tree trunks and caves that they can escape into. Overall, I felt bad for the bears. It's a pity that Bern's namesake creatures are put on display in this way.
