This museum is one of few in Bern to be open on Mondays, and we found it to be fairly quiet on that day, with car parking available right at the entrance. Although it is small in size, the museum has quite a good paleontology collection, interesting temporary exhibitions, and features a remarkable display of beautiful Alpine minerals, including huge quartz crystals and rose fluorite specimens. If you do not read German, seek out the English translation books that are to be found in racks in various locations. A little cinema, the entrance to which is hidden in a corner of the basement, shows an informative 20-minute video about the Planggenstock Treasure.

Museum packed to the roof with exhibits. Some are a bit strange - exhibit on life and death was showing when I was there and this had some surreal pieces (goat in a dress dancing with a skeleton of itself was one). Full of animals and exhibits detailing the flora and fauna and geology of Switzelrand with some world exhibits. A great day out of all.

It may not be the largest of museums, but especially the interactivity was a great experience for my 5 year old kids.

We visited the museum on a rainy Saturday. It was very busy. The entrance was so full of people and kids that we could not move. There are a lot of displays of animals with detailed information about them. After about half an hour we gave up and decided to leave. There was just to many people and kids running around making noise.

Luckily we entered for free with our Swiss Pass because it would not be worth the visit if we had to pay. I do think it is a great outing for people with kids and maybe I would have enjoyed it more on a quieter day.
