“great hotel from an older era”
Reviewed August 26, 2013

i was in Bern with my wife in August 2013 and we stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. this is a great hotel something like 2 km away from the city center on a hill with beautiful view from its garden which where the restaurant is located. this is a hotel with a jazz theme and each room is dedicated to a famous jazz artist. the room was decorated with posters of jazz and although old it combined excellent the modern style with the 1960's style.

our room was spacey with 2 windows and a sofa and of course a tv and a spacey bathroom plus an espresso machine. we paid 160 euros per night including free parking and breakfast which was nice but not great.

there is also a mini golf course which is free for the guests and a table tennis. of course they are outdoor.

if the weather is good then the yard where you can enjoy your meal is great with view of the city but the cost is expensive, but this is the case in every restaurant of Switzerland..

finally, i think you need a car to visit the city center since the way to the hotel is sloppy. of course you can walk it, but it depends on time and weather.

overall a great hotel and at a reasonable price since Bern is expensive

We stayed here for 3 nights. The service is slow, I asked for 2 more pillows and it took a couple of hours until they arrived. The next day we went sight seeing and expected the room to be made up when we got back but after being out for 9 hours it still wasn't done, we went to reception and waited while the room was done. The room we had was at the front of the hotel and it was a hot box with no working air conditioning after 2 nights not able to sleep because of the heat we asked for a fan.
The downstairs area has a nice ambience and you could easily while away a couple of hours just listening to the music. The breakfast was good. This hotel is really not for travellers as the restaurant doesn't open on a Saturday until 8am for breakfast.

A very interesting boutique hotel, you will just love it. Restaurant serves you really good food, very friendly staff. Quietly located with fabulous view of the Bern city. Me and my wife enjoyed our stay and will recommend to our friends.

great small hotel, full of jazz souvenir, each room is different and really enjoyable, nice view, food is good, service is nice, i mean people are trying their best, but is is visible that there is no management or coaching behind, so nothing really clean, stairs table outside and so on, but all remain very charming, and people are smiling. and despite after 20 minutes in the morning they come back to me and told me that they can do the omelette as there is nobody in the kitchen at 9am, the buffet was nice, and the view is great. it is nice place, nice people and great for jazz fun, not for people who like swiss perfection.

Room Tip: not all rooms have AC, so be sure to check the room when you arrive, as we had to change 3 times to...

Was completely caught off guard with this hotel, and pleasantly so. We had the Newport Jazz Fest room, and was quite happy with the room. It was large and spacious and all the memoriablia was fascinating. I had no clue this hotel had jazz roots going way back, especially the club in the basement. We were not there for a concert, but a birthday party. The manager of the hotel was exceptional and was quick on his feet to make everything 100% for the guests, and without even asking. My hat is off to him.

The number 21 bus goes directly from the Bahnhof to the hotel (the stop is almost in front). This makes it easy to go back and forth to the old town, but still have some quiet away time if needed.

The view from the garden is spectacular with the city at your feet and the mountains in the background, what it must look like on a Fon day (the Swiss Winds).

Would be more than willing to stay here, should the need occur for an overnight in Bern.

The Hotel Innere Enge is located just outside Bern's city centre (about 15 minutes walk) near the top of a hill with incredible views of the mountains to the south. I found the hotel itself to be friendly and comfortable although the air conditioning would seem to require upgrading. The rooms themselves are very large and comfortable and, although the hotel is on a main bus route, traffic volumes and noise are pleasantly low. The breakfast buffet is lavish and dinners, although somewhat expensive, are very well prepared and served. An unusual addition is the hotel management's enthusiasm for jazz, shown both by frequent live performances by world class musicians and replacement of the normal muzak with piped in broadcasts from a local jazz radio station.

This hotel is surprisingly charming and magical!
I don't like old hotels, or themed hotels normally, but I made an exception with this one! My husband pre booked this hotel due to its Jazz background, and good restaurant; I was very mad at him in the beginning because its outside of the city center, and it's old! Furthermore i had internet priblems in the first room we were offered and that is when i had my breaking point. thanks to the proffessional and friendly manager- my problem was solved and my stay there was simply excellent. staff are very friendly, especially girl with the long hair in reception. it's clean, lovely, classic, and a lovely walk into town. The rooms are beautiful, and even though I'm not a jazz fan, this hotel is full of inspiration. Restaurant is very nice, but there is room for improvement with the breakfast. Other than that, simply perfect!
