My experience with this hotel has left a lasting impression.
It had been a fraught day after bags were stolen complete with passports on the way to Geneva Airport. The hotel was selected as it was close to train station and British Embassy in Bern and for value and to provide some TLC for my daughter and her travelling companion.
They were greeted by friendly, helpful staff, given emergency items i.e. toothbrushes, razors and snacks etc. The hotel provided bikes (free of charge) so that they could get about and enjoy the beautiful city of Berne.
The rooms were fabulous and a gym was also available for guests use. When they left on the Monday for a cheaper hostel...by now they realised their insurance was somewhat inadequate, they were given good advice about the best ones to try. All in all the hotel did everything that they could to enable their guests to enjoy what had started as an inconvenient detour but emerged as the highlight of the holiday, second only to the Fatasticable.

Nice & welcoming hotel right in the heart of the capital city.
All places of interest (sights & businness alike) are within a short distance.
Choose a double even if you travel on your own. Singles rooms are like prison cells.
Make sure you have your earplugs with you if you want to sleep any later than 5 a.m!!
It is not this hotel's fault but streets in the old city are narrow and delivery trucks in the morning ARE noisy.

A travel guide I read described this hotel as "souless". That's somewhat true but for a one night stay (which is really all you need to explore Bern) it is well located (a 5 minute walk from the train station) and has everything you need. The rooms are smallish but perfectly nice. Breakfast and a free drink was included in the price, wifi was free and papers are also free. For the price, I think it is a good place to stay.

Hotels in Switzerland aren't cheap. We kind of whizzed through Bern because of it and only stayed one night. You could probably do two in summer.

This hotel is really nice though, despite the insane prices. Our room was not quite ready when we checked in a bit early, but they offered us a welcome drink at the bar and told us they'd let us know when the room was ready - which they did just 10 minutes later. Somehow the value and good feeling that a welcome drink adds to the experience is a lot more than the cost associated with it for the hotel, and I do wish more hotels followed this one's lead!

The room itself was great. Very modern and clean, with comfortable beds. The location can't be beat - it's right next to Bindesplatz / Federation Square. The city itself is very nice as well and we very much enjoyed our stay.

The hotel is very easy to find, being just round the corner from the main square, Parliament building, main post office etc. and about two blocks from the station. All the sights are within easy reach, as Berne is quite small. You can walk down to the river and round the peninsula in about forty minutes, stopping off at the bear enclosure at the tip of the peninsula. The hotel looks modern but is actually in an ancient historic building. It provides you with a decent but not sumptuous breakfast. You get a chit for a ‘welcome drink’ on arrival, and this can be redeemed at any point during your stay and, it would seem, for any type of beverage. I had a single room on the second floor. It was adequate. There was a large fixed desk in front of the window, which was useful but made it difficult to draw the curtains and/or open the window, which did not appear to have the normal German ‘tilt’ position. Air conditioning is provided. The bed was a bit hard. The bathroom was ok, the shower a bit dark and cramped and also quite slippery and thus not suitable for the elderly. There was no mini-bar or fridge, just one bottle of free water (still) on the first day, thereafter one is directed to a slot machine on the first floor where various types of drinks are available round the clock for 5 to 10 francs. There is also a bar where snacks are available (a sausage and pretzel was on offer at 10 francs). During the day, there is a small kiosk beside the front entrance, selling stamps, postcards, sweets etc. Numerous restaurants are located nearby; check out the prices before entering! This city is expensive. I must add that the staff were very friendly & helpful; you can stay in your room until 12 noon on day of departure, and there is plenty of storage for luggage.
