Far more interesting and educational than the name would imply. Don't miss taking in this hidden gem just off the Marktplatz.

My husband works in Pharma. So, it was his idea to go there. You feel like being back to your childhood when you see all these bottles, scales, vessels. We liked it and learned some things.

I'm a scientist in the pharmaceutical industry and being that Basel is sort of the Mecca for the industry I really expected a little more. It's not bad, but it really only goes to a certain point in time and then just stops. It stops at the point where pharmacy left the apothecary and went to industry. I'm still hoping to find a museum that touches on the origin of the modern tablet, capsule, syringe, inhaler, etc... This museum doesn't. It's more about crushed herbs and tinctures.

Information at www.pharmaziemuseum.ch
Located in an old house (circa 1296) between Marktplatz and Peterskirche.
Superb collection of interesting artifacts, remedies, healing practices, labortories, and pharmacy equipment. Mush larger exhibit than one would think for a nominal fee (and free, if you have a Euro Rail Pass).
A must see - if you are in the medical/pharma field. Very interesting for those who are not, like myself. I really liked the gorgeous wooden pharmacy interior (from Innsbruck 1755) and the pottery.
