The hotel is not very fancy nor does it offer any extras but the location is just perfect. In a couple of minutes you're in the city center with all its restaurants, bars and shops. Also, you can get easily to the board of the river Rhine which is a nice place to hang out during warm summer month (unfortunately it was a bit too cold when I was there). Great value for money though.

We stayed at this hotel before and found it back as we remembered it: clean, friendly, with spacious rooms and close to the city center. The hotel offers great fares and offers all amnesties one would need during a short city trip. Bus connection to the airport are close-by as well as trams to the central station. During summer, the board of the river Rhine offer a great place to be and enjoy a sunset.

My 16 year old daughter and I stayed two nights this week as part of a getaway to Europe. I was happy to find a hotel at a lower price, and was very pleased. All staffmembers were pleasant and helpful, the location is good for sightseeing - and Room 103 with very large bath was spotless. Loved the down comforters, modern thermostat and free wifi. We did not have a car, and enjoyed the mobility pass (included). We did not eat in the restaurant, preferred to walk to a cafe. If you visit Basel you won't be disappointed staying here and make sure you walk along the Rhine in the morning sunshine - lovely!

Room Tip: Room 103 is a large double with frosted glass windows, good for privacy with light.

The location of the hotel is excellent, only a few minutes walk (down a few flights of steep stairs I should add, so if you are averse to those try a different hotel or use the public transport) from the old town centre. It was easy to find with a SatNav.
The room ( we were in 216) was clean, had a good, fierce shower, a comfortable bed and tv. I would have liked tea-making facilities, but that's just the Brit inside me. It was also quiet, and the windows were efficient enough to block out most of the Sunday morning bells from the church next door. The reception staff were helpful and friendly, and provided not only a tourist map, but free public transport tickets for the weekend. The free wi-fi was also welcome, and it worked perfectly in our room.

I booked through booking.com and got a reasonably good rate too, CHF 100 for a double.

We didn't eat there mainly because we saw an indian restaurant next door (see my review if you're interested) and also fancied breakfast in town the next morning, so I can't comment on the quality of the hotel food or restaurant service .

If I have a grumble it is the parking. We weren't able to pre-book it and had to park about 1/2 mile away in an underground car park. The rate is CHF 25 for 24 hours. I can't believe there aren't cheaper and more convenient places in the area. I think they could also advise you where to park temporarily while you check in.

I think this hotel is excellent for a city break. It doesn't really have any soul, but we've all been in hotels that have 'character' and been just nasty. It ticks the boxes, and you feel like you've been looked after.

Room Tip: Our room (216) was in another building at the back of the hotel, and was quiet and light. It had a s...

Location is very good, close to the Rhein and in the middle of the old town and many trams and busses around the corner.
We arrived late at night and the temperature was minus 15 degrees celcius, I found it hard to find the hotel with just my Google Maps print but luckily there was a sign near the tram stop Schifflande which directed to the hotel (be prepared for stairs, with heavvy luggage you have to take another route). The staff was very nice, you have to pay when you check out. Wifi is free but you have to ask for the login code and you have to log in again every time.
Our room (305) was very nice with a lovely view on the old town roofs and sky.
Beds were spotless and there was a closet, a small desk, small table, two chairs and a minibar (which had drinks in it, but we didn't use).
The shower worked fine, water pressure a bit low but ok. Towels were clean and there's this 3 in 1 shower/hair/hand wash gel. We stayed 3 nights and the bed linnen wasn't changed which doesn't bother me.
Breakfast was great, very expensive (CHF 16 per person) but everything is expensive in Switzerland and the quality was great. A wide range of choices and delicious bread.
Some minor improvements would make the hotel even better:
There was a heating system which worked fine but because sleeping with the heating system on isn't that nice some extra blankets in the closet would have been perfect as it was very very cold and the sheets on the bed were quite thin.
The ventilation fan in shower went on automatically which was very disturbing at night after using the toilet you have to wait until it's quiet again. Also the bathroom was a bit smelly everyday so probably that's why the ventilation had to work as often as possible.
Overall we really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.
Do not hesitate booking this hotel is a very good choice !

Room Tip: make sure you are in the main building as I think there's another one right behind

Nice room (208), quiet, spacious and very clean. Good size bathroom, but with just liquid soap/shampoo/shower-gel all in one as personal care items. Free in-room wi-fi at high speed.
English breakfast-buffet not included in the price and kind of expensive (CHF 16 per person), but varied and excellent if you are for a consistent meal in the morning. Good coffee available at all times in the breakfast area. Most professional and friendly staff ever - thank you guys!
Very peaceful area, offering delightful walks. The hotel is 10 minutes from all the main sights of Basel, fantastic location for a good price. The free-pass/mobility ticket for all trams/buses in the city they gave us at hotel was very useful and appreciated. Take a trip of about 30 min with tram 6 to Fondation Beyler, it is exquisite. Also, reserve an hour for Puppenhaus Museum, in the old-town - it’s unique and unforgettable. Basel is lovely, it worth the visit and Hotel Rochat was an excellent experience; we would definitely come back

A friend and I stayed four nights in Basel preliminary to a Christmas Markets on the Rhine cruise with Grand Circle. Rochat has a great location, convenient to transport, restaurants, and the old downtown core. There are a couple of flights of stairs between the tram and the hotel. The staff was uniformly and exceptionally professional and friendly. The room was spacious and very clean; the breakfast was extensive, and the wifi was free. We would definitely go back.
