We ate with a group of 8. Our hosts had eaten there the night before, that's how good it is. Great atmosphere! Mama is literally in the kitchen cooking. We loved it.

Atmosphere: terracotta floor, whitewashed walls and family photographs on the wall. Very clearly a family run business, cozy, would go there just for the feeling of being on holiday. Italian colleague rated the atmosphere as like being back in Milan, but with friendly service.
Italians coming and going and loud discussion during lunch emanating from the kitchen, I was told this was an argument, to me it just made the whole experience more southern.
There is an extensive menu that is available at lunch as well as at dinner. There are also lunch specials: a meat, a pasta, a fish. We chose the lunch menu. We had salad: very fresh slivers of fennel with rucola and a freshly made mushroom soup as starters. The bread is homemade and is absolutely heavenly, it is worth going for the bread alone, 3 different kinds, delectable. Main course was ricotta and spinach pasta baked in the oven with tomato sauce. Comforting, filling pasta dish, very satisfying and the fact that the owner came over to ask how it was and to tell us she makes it herself added to the experience. The primitivo by the glass was drinkable, but didnt represent the best of its class, would rate at 4/10 and not recommend.
We shared a tiramsu, also homemade, too much cocoa powder on it but otherwise fine, not the best not the worst. For the best Tiramisu in Basel go to AROMA. The coffee was lovely.
We will be going back to try some other dishes. Overall our conclusion was good, honest above average italian food in a lovely atmosphere, the best Italian in Basel is still AROMA by far, the best pizza DA GIANNI, but our lunch today was a thoroughly enjoyable experience.
