Took the bus from Basel airport which drops you off in front of the main train station, and the hotel is right in front of you. It is a no nonsense property, it's clean, it has a restaurant with decent food but expensive prices, breakfast that is plentiful, rooms that are big (we stayed in a suite on the top floor) with a queen size bed facing the back and a fold out twin bed in the living room facing the train station. We stayed there only for a day, just to catch a river cruise which eventually didn't leave out of Basel because of the flooding of the Rhine. We also stayed during a football match of the local team and through the night I could hear fire crackers, and not to mention the trains and trams that go back and forth outside of the hotel. I think I eventually fell asleep after all the traffic has stopped running, and awaken when the first train/tram started to roll. Downtown Basel is about 4-5 tram stops away, and the free visitor pass for public transportation is handy, since the main tram station is also outside of the hotel. There isn't much going on near the train station, and the options for food also is limited. If you need to catch a train in and out of Basel, then this location is excellent, provided you can tolerate the noise level and are willing to take the tram into town. If you are thinking of taking a river cruise out of Basel, then there are no hotels located near the ports and therefore you will most likely need to take a cab regardless where you are staying the night prior.

At check-in I specifically asked for a quiet room and was pleased to get a room on the backside of the hotel away from the main railway station. Little did I know that my room was directly above a cargo delivery bay for a supermarket located in the same building. When the first delivery trucks pulled in around 5.30am and started unloading my peaceful sleep was over. Some trucks were so loud that even a phone call in the room would have been impossible.

Make sure you get a room facing the inner courtyard or stay away from this hotel!

We arrived three days early. The staff was welcoming and accommodating; they gave us a large king room at the online rate we had bid... for the extra 3 nights. Hotel was meticulously clean and conveniently located. We were delighted with everything; especially the helpful front desk. Tram to see the sights at the front door. We were pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed Basel. This was the starting point of a river cruise and a positive way to start a vacation. We highly recommend the Hotel Victoria.

We were on a 2 week independent rail tour of Switzerland and Basel was our 1st night stay before travelling south the following day. After 10 hours on trains we were relieved to see the hotel directly in front of us as we left the train station. The reception staff greeted us warmly and with courtesy, informing us that although we had booked a superior double room, we had been upgraded to a corner suite on the top floor. The suite was absolutely spotless and fabulously appointed with top class furniture and fittings. It also benefitted of a dual aspect view over the city. Following a very comfortable and peaceful nights sleep we breakfasted in the restaurant. The choice of food was extensive and everything, hot and cold, was fresh and professionally presented. We checked out of the hotel in a very upbeat mood. Well done Hotel Victoria and our please accept our genuine appreciation of your very generous and unexpected upgrade !!!!!!

Room Tip: Book a room on a high floor away from the trams.

This was our first hotel stay of a train tour of Italy and it was a great start to our trip and to break up our journey. The hotel is just opposite the train station but I didn't find it noisy in the hotel at all. The room was fantastic, very big, clean, comfortable bed and a huge bathroom (two sinks). I'm not sure if this was a standard room or whether we had been upgraded. We also received a complimentary bottle of champagne, fruit, chocolate in our room, which I think was due to the fact we had got married the previous day. It was a lovely surprise! We received complimentary tram tickets to visit Basel. Breakfast was lovely with a good choice and nice surroundings. I also needed to see a doctor whilst there, the hotel directed me to a private doctors practice just minutes away, excellent service but expensive, would recommend a good travel insurance (just incase). I would definately recommend this hotel for business or pleasure, you won't be disappointed.

Very clean hotel well maintained with efficient staff. Our room was very spacious and overlooked the station. Tea and coffee in the room always a plus. The morning trams did not bother us as we wake early. Lovely touch - fruit juice, apples and local ginger biscuits always available at reception. I felt the breakfast choice might have been slightly wider. Very easy to get to if flying to Basle. Leave the station on the Swiss side and take the 50 bus which is right outside the door. Show your hotel reservation for a free ride to the city(about 20 minutes). You will see the hotel in front of you as you alight the bus. Basle has a brilliant tram system free to visitors (you will be given a pass when you check in at the hotel.) The 8 or 11 tram take you in minutes to the old town which is the heart of Basle.

Excellently located hotel just across the street from the Basel Central SBB station. There are two entrances /exits to the station. Find the one that has the main ticket office on the ground floor and once you exit, the hotel is in front of you. Very clean and well appointed. The buses and trams connect right there as well so easy access to many points in the city. The hotel has been modernized very well and we found no fault whatsoever. Fabrice on the front desk provided excellent service and information throughout our stay. The train station has a Migros market inside where you can get everything you need and there is also a Coop Market two doors to the left of the hotel entrance. Excellent for grabbing water and supplies. The # 8 tram takes you right to town center in just a few stops and runs every 5 minutes or so.
We found this to be a very nice hotel and would recommend as we would certainly have no hesitation in staying here again on our next visit.
